Where we work

Owner is a remote-first, global company headquartered in San Francisco, with a sales hub in Toronto. For a few of our roles we prioritize in-person collaboration at one of our office locations. Why we’re looking for you

We are excited to hire our first-ever Payroll and Benefits Manager who will help shape how we take care of our growing team. In this role, you’ll be the go-to expert for everything payroll and benefits, making sure our team members feel supported, rewarded, and cared for while our operations run like clockwork. This person will sit on the People Ops team (while partnering closely with Finance) and act as our total rewards guru - someone who knows how to design smooth, global processes while building competitive programs that help us scale with ease. This role is 100% remote and can be based anywhere in the United States or Canada.

The impact you will have

• Oversee end-to-end payroll processing for all team members globally - flawlessly and on time.
• Deliver clear, accurate reports to our finance team.
• Partner with vendors to optimize systems, resolve issues, and keep our payroll running smoothly.
• Develop and maintain policies and procedures that keep us efficient, compliant, and audit-ready.
• Collaborate with payroll vendors on audits, filings, and reporting.
• Ensure accurate classification of team members vs. contractors in compliance with regulatory guidelines.
• Manage team member benefit programs including but not limited to health, dental, vision, life, retirement plans and wellness initiatives ensuring compliance across statutory regulations.
• Partner with brokers and vendors to evaluate, renew, and negotiate benefit plans that are competitive to our team and the market.
• Be the trusted guide for all benefits questions and enrollment support.
• Develop thoughtful, compliant leave management processes that support a scaling global organization.
• Support team members through requests and approvals with care and clarity while in accordance with statutory regulations and company policy.
• Manage onboarding requests and billing processes for all contractors and freelancers.
