Full-Time Phlebotomist (Evenings)

JOB DESCRIPTION

The LSBME Phlebotomist is responsible for performing a various of venipuncture techniques to collect blood specimens from patients of all age groups. Individuals performing in this job role are responsible for transcribing laboratory orders from outside providers, and for receiving, processing, transporting, and distributing all laboratory specimens.

GENERAL DUTIES

Performance of Venipuncture and Skin Puncture:

• Performs venipuncture and skin puncture in accordance with department SOP.

Workload Management:

• Adheres to SOP in the use of handheld devices for specimen collection for patient.
• Monitors collection list and document status of outstanding collections where specimens are not collected.

Specimen Pick Up and Delivery:

• Ensures that STAT specimens are delivered to the Lab within minutes of collection or pick up.

Specimen Handling and Receipt:

• Ensures that specimens are updated to receive status and correct data is reflected in terms of collect date/time and receipt date/time.
• Delivers to the appropriate Lab Section immediately upon receipt.

Quality Assurance Related Duties:

• Communicates complaints or problems to department supervisor.
• Collects data for quality assurance program as outlined by department SOP or instruction by department supervisor.
• Maintains thorough and neat documentation.

EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS

• HighSchoolDiploma or Equivalentrequired.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

• American Heart Association Basic Life Support Health Care Provider.
• LSBME Phlebotomist License
