Job Summary

Under the general supervision of the Payment Services Manager, the Payment Technician III plays a critical role in the accounts payable lifecycle. This position is responsible for processing complex transactions, resolving payment discrepancies, mentoring junior staff, and ensuring compliance with CSU and university policies.

The Payment Services team currently operates on a hybrid schedule : team members will work 3 days per week in the office and telecommute 2 days per week. Schedule requirements could change based on project needs.

Department Summary

Strategic Business Services (SBS), a division of Cal Poly's Administration & Finance, provides strategic advisory and operational support in procure-to-pay, travel, enterprise risk management, and real estate. SBS supports day-to-day business operations while enabling the university's entrepreneurial growth, including public-private partnerships, off-campus real estate, on-campus commercial and research activity, and collaborative purchasing efforts.

The Payment Services - Accounts Payable (PSAP) unit within SBS oversees non-payroll disbursements for the university. It serves internal departments, external vendors, and regulatory entities by ensuring timely and compliant payments.

Key Qualifications

  • Thorough and advanced knowledge and understanding of accounts payable practices, rules, processes, and standards and strong understanding of financial recordkeeping principles.
  • Ability to solve complex transactional problems by analyzing and interpreting a wide variety of rules, processes, and regulations.
  • Ability to train, mentor, and review work of others.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems, Microsoft Excel, and financial databases.
  • Advanced analytical and organizational skills to organize, prioritize, handle, and set work

objectives to achieve work unit goals.

  • High degree of confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Advanced communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial processes, policies, and guidelines.
  • Education and Experience

  • Equivalent to four years of accounts payable experience or closely related financial recordkeeping experience.
  • Salary and Benefits

    Anticipated Hiring Range : $60,552 - $66,852 per year

    Classification Range : $54,840 - $79,896 per year

    Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Anticipated Hiring Range referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Classification Range may be broader than what the University anticipates paying for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
