Environmental Health Safety Specialist

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

• Inspects machines and equipment for accident prevention devices
• Observes workers to determine use of prescribed safety equipment, such as glasses, hard hats, goggles, respirators and clothing
• Inspects specified areas for fire-prevention equipment and other safety and first-aid supplies
• Tests working areas for noise, toxic, and other hazards, using decibel meter, gas detector, and light meter
• Document all accidents, safety violations, unsafe conditions / activities
• Prepares report of findings with recommendations for corrective action / s
• Investigate accidents to ascertain causes for use in recommending preventive safety measures and developing safety program / s
• May demonstrate use of safety equipment
• Ensures compliance with occupational safety and health regulations
• Coordinates of Safety programs to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and financial losses
• Assist with Human Resources with the recruitment / orientation processes
• Additional assignments with the Safety Director’s direction
