The responsibilities of this position are broad and require a thorough knowledge of laws, regulations and procedures pertaining to the Department of Education and State of Florida administrative operations. The employee in this position serves as the personnel liaison for the Bureau of Educator Recruitment, Development and Retention. As such he / she is responsible for preparing personnel actions, serving as timekeeper by maintaining attendance and leave records, and preparing position requisitions through the People First System. Timesheets will be completed in the People First System by the 5th business day of the following month. Confidentiality of these matters will be maintained at all times. This position is not approved for telework and must report to the location listed above.
Duties and responsibilities include training new support staff and OPS staff in Bureau / DOE procedures and operations, making travel arrangements for the Bureau Chief, assisting in the preparation of correspondence, purchase requisitions, travel authorizations, travel reimbursements and reports pertaining to all programs within the bureau, tracking correspondence leaving the bureau to ensure deadlines are maintained and that correspondence is forwarded to appropriate recipients in a timely manner, maintaining personnel records on all bureau staff, prioritizing, typing, proofing, and reviewing finished products for grammatical and spelling errors, checking for correct formats, and departmental correspondence procedures, serving as the Bureau's liaisons for all personnel matters, serving as the Bureau's contact Florida Department of Health Emergency Notification System, serving as the Bureau's Chief Floor Warden for fire drills and other emergency evacuation procedures, serving as the Bureau's equipment manager to ensure all equipment is accounted for appropriately maintained, performing other duties as assigned by the Bureau Chief and Program Director, serving as the lead staff assistant for the bureau, coordinating bi-weekly staff assistant meetings to accomplish bureau priorities, and lead for inter-department tracking of bureau presentations, travel, web updates, and policy to ensure projects are routed and approved in a timely manner.

The incumbent must interact courteously with others. The performance and behavior of all employees must demonstrate consideration of the workload concerns of others and must not negatively affect productivity and morale of the unity. Attendance is an essential function. The working hours for this position is 8 : 00 a.m. 5 : 00 p.m.
Minimum qualifications include ability to communicate effectively including verbal and written communication, ability to provide work samples of writing skills for grammar, editing and communication review, strong organizational skills, and strong professionalism and ability to communicate with a variety of external and internal stakeholders. Preferred qualifications include applicants who have excellent writing skills and knowledge of grammar, and applicants who demonstrate strength in proofreading and editing.
