Position Overview
The Parks Facilities Maintenance Supervisor reports directly to the Parks Operations Superintendent and is a key team member of the Parks Operations Division. This working supervisor position is critical to the current and long-term success of the City of West Sacramento's Parks and Recreation Department. With an ever-growing and changing parks network, the position is instrumental in developing, establishing, implementing, and overseeing the department's maintenance and repair (routine, preventative, and deferred) programs for both current and future parks, trails, and open space sites.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise all maintenance and repair activities across parks, trails, and open spaces, ensuring high quality and safety standards.
- Plan, direct, and execute routine, preventative, and deferred maintenance programs for facilities, structures, and landscape features.
- Manage schedule, staffing, training, performance evaluation, and professional development of maintenance staff and contractors.
- Oversee mechanical, electrical, carpentry, masonry, painting, plumbing, pool & spray grounds, HVAC, access control, welding, and general maintenance work.
- Prepare, monitor, and report on the division budget, and procure supplies, material, and equipment within budgetary constraints.
- Use electronic maintenance management systems to document work orders, status, and generate reports.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, regulatory, and environmental requirements; maintain detailed records and documentation.
Selected Trade Skills
Electrical – repairs, replacements, and maintenance of wiring, fuses, switches, motors, generators, lighting systems, control systems, and other fixtures and equipment; installation of conduits, pull boxes, and switches.Carpentry – repairs on doors, windows, floors, roofs, ceilings, construction of tables and benches, and installation of tile and carpet.Masonry – repairs on walkways, walls, stairs, ramps.Painting – surface preparation, paint application, and staining.Plumbing – installation, maintenance, and repair of plumbing systems and fixtures such as faucets, sinks, toilets, water heaters, and pumps; drain and toilet unblocking.Pools & Spray Grounds – maintenance, repair, replacement of chemical and PH management systems, circulatory systems, filter systems, control systems, and safety equipment.HVAC – troubleshooting, routine maintenance, cleaning, and service of units, thermostat adjustment, and vendor coordination.Access Control – locking and rekeying operations, installation of electronic access control systems, locks, panic bars, and key cutting.Welding – repairs of steel, stainless steel, and aluminum using Arc, MIG, TIG, and oxy-acetylene processes.General – ordering supplies, operating CMMS, maintaining tools and equipment, inspecting facilities, securing buildings.Additional Desired Skills & Experience
Staff supervision including hiring, scheduling, coaching, training, and performance evaluation.Solid knowledge of facilities maintenance administration.Financial acumen to project costs and complete work within budget.Blueprint, schematic reading.Experience with pool and spray ground maintenance.Planning, organization, analytical, and decision-making skills.Excellent written and verbal communication and leadership abilities.Experience in executing complicated preventative maintenance programs.Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain one within 12 months of hire.CMMS experience.Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent.Five (5) years of experience in a facilities maintenance related field; at least two (2) years in a supervisory or lead role.A valid California driver's license at hire.Class A California Commercial Driver's License (CDL) obtained within twelve (12) months of hire.Certified Pool Operator (CPO) desired or obtainable within twelve (12) months of hire.Trade certificates or licenses from accredited institutions desirable.Licenses & Certificates

Travel between sites; work on elevated platforms or ladders; exposure to low and medium voltages, hydraulic, pneumatic, and chemical systems; required to work various shifts, evenings, weekends, and holidays; 24-hour response by phone and in person for emergencies and citywide emergency response events. May be required to lift, move, and carry materials and equipment up to fifty (50) pounds and heavier with proper equipment.
Physical Demands
Must possess mobility to work in various city parks, buildings, and facilities; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform medium to heavy physical work, operate varied hand and power tools; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio; finger dexterity to access, enter and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above-mentioned tools and equipment; bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites; some heavy lifting, standing, climbing.
Environmental Elements
Exposure to confined spaces; dust and noise; inclement weather conditions; loud noise, vibration, chemicals, mechanical and electrical hazards; hazardous physical substances and fumes. May interact with upset staff, public, and contractors in enforcing departmental policies and procedures.
