Overview
Project Coordinator II role at Austal – coordinate, guide and direct functional project leads to enable successful and efficient construction of submarine modules with a focus on milestone achievement and cost and schedule performance.
Responsibilities
- Provide coordination, guidance and direction to the functional project leads to ensure work enables successful and efficient construction with focus on milestone achievement and cost and schedule performance
- Teach, mentor or advise Level I Coordinator
- Coordinate, mediate and resolve craft-specific production work sequences conflicts related to constraints affecting performance to cost and schedule
- Maintain a daily presence regarding work in progress for one or more crafts to monitor safety, housekeeping, progress and staff performance
- Conduct craft meetings and attend others as required
- Ensure the work in progress aligns with the published schedule sequence
- Perform random validation of status reporting against actual work to ensure accuracy of reporting functions required to support EVMS
- Monitor and ensure compliance with Quality procedures and documents
- Monitor and ensure compliance with contract requirements
- Monitor and ensure compliance with regulatory body and classification society guides, rules and regulations
- Maintain daily communication with the Project Manager to report status and issues and initiate and follow through with required variance analysis and corrective action plans
- Monitor and validate resource requirements actuals against planned work in progress
- Monitor and validate use of rework and lessons learned processes to promote continuous improvement
Qualifications / Knowledge / Experience
Competency in a specific industry related craft or discipline with working knowledge of one or more additional industry related crafts or disciplinesAbility to read and interpret shipbuilding contracts and specificationsAbility to read and interpret regulatory body and classification society guides, rules and regulationsAbility to read and comprehend engineering drawings and dataMinimum 3 years' experience in a ship building, ship repair or similar construction / manufacturing environment, with a minimum of 2 years' experience at a Supervisor level (or equivalent) OR minimum of 1 year experience as a Level I Project CoordinatorCompetent with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook and Excel)Ability to work independently and be self-motivatedCompetent understanding of Earned Value Management (EVM) principles and processesAbility to efficiently validate, interpret and understand task scheduling or work sequencingSome college education preferredGood communication skills both verbally and in writingAbility to use and interpret relevant cost and schedule data reports and understanding of scheduling software (Primavera or Microsoft Projects)Onboard the vessel with extensive time onboard (as much as 100%), navigating stairs and ladders at heights up to 75 feet and in variable temperaturesWillingness to work irregular and sometimes extended schedules as requiredTOOLS
