Middle School (6-8) Teacher in Training - Competencies and Qualifications

Lighthouse is seeking a Middle School Teacher in Training to work full-time to support students and develop the skills needed to one day step into your own classrooms, with the opportunity to apply to enter the Alder Teacher Residency to earn a credential and your own classroom at Lighthouse or Lodestar. Support for tuition assistance to complete degree requirements or to apply and enter the Alder Teacher Residency is available.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic and behavioral support to a caseload of students during the core day. Caseload will be assigned by the AP of Instruction and the AP of Culture.
• Deliver individualized or small group instruction in academic, literacy and math, behavioral / social-emotional, and social skills.
• Implement behavior intervention strategies and plans, as needed.
• Communicate with students' families in conjunction with teachers to discuss progress and growth areas.
• Monitor and document student progress toward intervention and support goals.
• Receive training in specific intervention approaches to support your caseload.
• Teach your own class of students during ASP, extending learning from the Core Day and providing structured enrichment activities.
• Actively supervise recess and lunch during ASP, ensuring safe and orderly environments and handling setup / cleanup as needed.
• Provide Academic Support in a setting that promotes student success and independence during both core day and ASP programs.
• Collaboratively plan and lead activities that build meaningful community connections.
• Support other key tasks across the school day, including proctoring assessments, communicating with families, and supporting teachers and student engagement as assigned.
• Attend and participate in professional development, team and staff meetings to improve student support and engagement.
• Collaborate with other staff and the larger Lighthouse Community.
• Maintain professional behavior and follow all school staff policies (including Mandated Reporter, staff / student interaction policies and other requirements).
• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Level 2-with BA : $35-45K+ (10-month salary range)

Level 1-AA or equivalent : $30K+ (10-month salary range)

Physical Demands

Ability to see and hear on a continuous basis and speak frequently. Sit / stand for extended periods. Lift up to 25 pounds. Walk long distances. Occasional travel to sites for professional development.

Time Commitment

This position is full-time, salaried, non-exempt, 10-month (190 day) position following the LCPS school calendar, with hours 10 : 00am to 6 : 30pm daily. Summer work may be available for staff interested in additional programs.

Compensation

Base pay range : $30,000.00 / yr - $45,000.00 / yr. Compensation includes a competitive salary and benefits package as described by Lighthouse Community Public Schools.
