About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief External Affairs Officer (CEAO) to play a pivotal role in shaping and stewarding its brand, leading the policy agenda, and expanding its influence. The CEAO will be a strategic and creative leader, responsible for crafting compelling narratives, driving digital and media engagement, and positioning the organization as a national thought leader in social impact. This senior executive will oversee a dynamic team and ensure that the company's storytelling is strategic, values-aligned, and supportive of its mission. Key responsibilities include executive leadership, team management, brand, marketing, and communications strategy, as well as public affairs and policy communications. The ideal candidate will be a visionary operator, lead with executive presence, and champion equity and racial literacy.
Candidates for the CEAO position at the company should have a minimum of 15 years' experience in communications, marketing, brand strategy, public affairs, policy, or a related field, with a strong commitment to the mission and values of the organization. The role requires a proven track record in leading digital marketing campaigns, growing social media engagement, and experience in policy advocacy and government relations. The successful candidate will be an outstanding storyteller, with the ability to craft mission-aligned narratives, and will be adept at managing a brand or executive voice that is bold, equity-centered, and values-driven. Experience in the racial equity, education, entrepreneurship, or philanthropy sectors is preferred. The CEAO will be expected to foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and deep commitment to racial equity within the external affairs team and to invest in the professional development of staff.
