Eyelet Toolmaker – 1st Shift | $30–$48 / hour | Direct Hire | Waterbury, CT

Summary of Purpose

The Toolmaker will perform a variety of duties to set up, maintain, and troubleshoot a complete range of deep draw transfer press tools. This includes repairing, adjusting, and developing complex and diversified tooling to ensure product quality and efficiency. The Toolmaker also supports continuous improvement initiatives across production areas.

Essential Functions

  • Work from specifications, blueprints, sketches, and verbal instructions to construct complex tools, transfer fingers, and gages.
  • Apply shop mathematics and trigonometry to calculate dimensions, tolerances, and allowances.
  • File, grind, contour, fit, and finish tooling by hand as required; prove out tooling through sample runs and obtain Quality Assurance approval.
  • Prepare machines for production by removing prior tooling, installing new sets, and performing initial run checks to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot production issues by diagnosing mechanical or tooling problems, making necessary repairs, and verifying corrective actions through test runs.
  • Collaborate with maintenance mechanics and electricians as needed to resolve equipment issues.
  • Use computer systems for SPC data entry and production documentation.
  • Work independently or within a small team / cell environment to support production goals.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Perform tooling changeovers and ensure machine operators understand correct setup and operation procedures.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, adhering to all safety protocols and company regulations.
  • Perform related duties as assigned to support team and departmental goals.
  • Qualifications

  • Proven experience as a Toolmaker, Eyelet Toolmaker, or Transfer Press Toolmaker (deep draw experience preferred).
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with ability to read and interpret complex blueprints.
  • Proficient in precision measurement, machine setup, and press operation.
  • Experience working on U.S. Baird, Waterbury Farrel, or similar transfer press equipment preferred.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented manufacturing environment.
  • Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and varying temperatures.
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) must be worn at all times as required.

  • Pay Range : $30 – $48 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)
