Overview
The City of Sherwood is hiring a Public Works Operations Supervisor for Parks and Facilities
Under general direction, plan, organize, direct, supervise and review the activities of one or more assigned Operations Division programs that are responsible for the operation and maintenance of the city's parks and facilities. Perform a variety of technical tasks relative to the assigned areas of responsibility. Oversee contracts and programs as needed. Oversee events and act as liaison for internal and external groups and committees. Responsible for supervising one to twelve full time employees, depending on area of assignment. May provide training and orientation to volunteers, students and newly assigned personnel on site policies and practices.

Essential Duties
Auxiliary Job Functions
Assist the Public Works Department and other City departments with special projects as assigned. Provide assistance to other staff as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain proficiency by attending training and meetings, reading materials, and meeting with others in areas of responsibility. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner. This position may perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge
Assigned area of responsibility, including construction methods, materials, equipment, and maintenance procedures and practices. Considerable knowledge of the federal, state, and regional guidelines and rules related to the maintenance of the City's infrastructure. Knowledge of principles of supervision, training, and performance evaluation; principles and practices of administration, budget, and personnel management. Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety procedures appropriate for infrastructure maintenance activities.
Ability
Interact effectively with the public and employees. Supervise and direct assigned area of responsibility; provide effective leadership; interpret and apply laws and regulations; conduct field inspections; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; read and interpret maps, plans and specifications, blueprints, drawings; estimate time, materials and equipment; and operate modern office equipment including personal computer and applicable software.
Education and Experience
Typical education would include a high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented with college level course work equivalent to an Associate of Arts Degree. Typical experience would include five years of related experience, including two years in a supervisory capacity or project management or lead worker responsibilities, or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the above duties.
Special Requirements / Licenses
Possession of a valid Class A Commercial driver's license with tank endorsement at time of appointment or ability to obtain within 6 months of appointment. Failure to maintain licensure is grounds for disqualification of continued employment. Also required are : Current CPR / First Aid card, Work Zone Traffic Safety certification, and Forklift certification.
Depending on area of assignment, may require possession of any or all of the following certifications within one year of appointment :
Desirable Qualifications
Previous experience within the City of Sherwood Public Works Department. Depending on area of assignment : State of Oregon Limited Electrical License, DEQ Emissions Certificate, DEQ / EPA Refrigerant Certificate, HVAC Technician, and Resource Management School Certification.
Supplemental Information
Physical Demands : While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Many duties are physically demanding requiring entry to confined spaces and occasionally moving materials weighing up to 100 pounds. Movement of materials weighing up to 75 pounds may consume up to 15% of the work period. Activity and types of duties performed require manual dexterity and coordination. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while using maintenance tools and equipment and operating standard office equipment such as computer, calculator, etc.
Working Conditions : Work is performed in a wide variety of environments including office, shop, and outside weather conditions, and may be exposed to fumes, oils, and chemicals. Position performs 24-hour emergency duties and may be subject to call-out after normal hours and may be included in pager duty rotation for 1-week periods. Entry to confined spaces is required on an infrequent basis.
