POSITIONSUMMARY :

The Database Administrator II isresponsible for supporting the mission critical production, test, anddevelopment applications used for campus administration.

The Database Administrator II (DBA II) is responsible for supportingOracle Database Administration, Apache Tomcat, Banner Administration, andmiddleware integrations. Furtherresponsibilities include support of the data warehouse and ETL processes,troubleshooting errors generated by in-house or vendor provide software,building and configuring Banner modules to perform needed functionalityaccording to documented processes and procedures, assisting with theimplementation of new software and upgrades of existing software, and workingwith the application team to develop database architectures, coding standards,and quality assurance procedures.

Duties are performed on a varietyof operating systems with a primary focus on Linux and Windows. The DBA II may be required towork evenings and weekends to ensure proper administration.

DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES :

Conducts advanced Oracle DatabaseAdministration tasks, including database creation and maintenance, tuning,capacity planning, backup and recovery, program migrations, and securityimplementation / enforcement / audit.

Architects high availabilitysystems and implements, documents, and tests Disaster Recovery solutions.Installs, maintains, and integrates Middle Tier technologies including Oracle Weblogicand Apache Tomcat.

Coordinates with the Project andPortfolio Management Office (PPMO) to conduct project management duties such asresearch, scoping, resource planning, and risk analysis.

Mentors team members, developsdocumentation and technical guidelines and diagrams.

Researchs emerging technologies and trends in the Oracle Database andapplications market and develop proposals on how these trends impact theDuquesne environment.

Works with Duquesne moduleleaders to plan and implement Ellucian patches and upgrades.

Troubleshoot errors generated byin-house or vendor provided software.

Builds and configures Bannermodules to perform needed functionality according to documented processes andprocedures.

Assists with the implementation ofnew software and upgrades of existing software.

Works with application staff todevelop database architectures, coding standards, and quality assurancepolicies and procedures.

Completes otherduties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS :

Minimum qualifications :

Bachelor's Degreein Computer Science, IT or a related field from an accredited institution.

5-8 years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications :

Master's degree in a related field from an accredited institution.

Alternately, thesuccessful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience andtraining, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required toperform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, thefollowing :

Monitoring backup jobs andimplementation of backup strategies.

Development and implementation ofupgrade methodologies.

Project management duties -research, scope definition, resource and time estimation, risk analysis.

Professional expertise andworking knowledge in Oracle Database Administration, Apache Tomcat, EllucianBanner Administration, and middleware integrations.

Experience with data warehousingand ETL processes.

Experience with enterprise-levelapplications that include, but are not limited to, Ellucian Banner Workflow, Evisions,IBM Cognos Analytics, Axiom, Slate, and UKG Ready.

Ability to conduct independent research intotechnical subjects and present findings or recommendations.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with theUniversity Community.
