Position Summary
The Civil Sitework Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for civil construction projects, including site development, earthwork, utilities, concrete flatwork, and paving. This role supports the company’s bidding and preconstruction efforts by analyzing project documents, performing quantity takeoffs, and collaborating with internal teams, subcontractors, and suppliers. The Estimator plays a critical role in securing profitable work and ensuring successful project execution through detailed and well-documented estimates.
General Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze civil engineering drawings, specifications, and related documents to prepare detailed and accurate takeoffs and cost estimates.
- Develop comprehensive bid packages and proposals in coordination with the preconstruction and project management teams.
- Utilize estimating software such as Bid2Win, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Excel.
- Coordinate with subcontractors and vendors to solicit and evaluate pricing for labor, materials, and equipment.
- Review and incorporate geotechnical reports, site logistics, and phasing plans into the estimating process.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
- Maintain historical cost data and assist with budget development for future projects.
- Attend pre-bid meetings, site visits, and project walk-throughs as needed.
- Support project handoff to operations teams with clear documentation upon award.
- Stay up to date with market conditions, material pricing, and industry trends.

Be a self-starter and demonstrate initiative in managing estimating tasks, bid deadlines, and takeoffs efficiently and accurately.Adapt to changing project requirements and client needs to ensure all estimates are completed on time.Identify potential constructability issues, scope gaps, or cost risks early and communicate findings to supervisors or project management.Ask questions to clarify project scope, specifications, and drawings to ensure full understanding prior to bid submission.Communicate effectively—both verbally and in writing—with supervisors, project managers, subcontractors, and clients.Maintain strong knowledge of civil sitework operations including grading, utilities, storm drainage, paving, and erosion control .Plan and organize bid schedules, takeoffs, and quote solicitations to maintain consistent estimating productivity.Work independently and collaboratively to ensure estimates reflect accurate quantities, production rates, and market pricing.Lead by example through accuracy, integrity, and accountability in all estimating work.Maintain awareness of current market trends, material costs, and subcontractor performance.Thoroughly read and interpret civil plans, specifications, geotechnical reports, and addenda.Support operations by providing clear, organized, and complete documentation during project handoff.Uphold company values and maintain professional relationships with vendors, clients, and coworkers.Supervision Received :
The Civil Sitework Estimator works under the direction of the Vice President of Operations and President . The Estimator will collaborate closely with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure accurate, timely, and competitive project bids that align with company standards and goals.
Qualifications :
Minimum 3 years of experience in civil construction estimating or a related field.Strong understanding of sitework, utilities, grading, and earthwork processes.Proficiency with estimating software (Bid2Win, Trimble Business Center, Bluebeam, Excel).Ability to read and interpret civil plans and technical documents.Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.High attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.Benefits :
