Construction Laborer

Job Description :

Responsible for performing a wide range of tasks on construction projects which requires worker to have an extensive experience level and ability to perform many different tasks during all stages of construction.

Job Responsibilities :

  • Clean and prepare construction sites
  • Load, unload, and distribute building materials
  • Assist other workers, such as carpenters and finishers, as directed
  • Erect and disassemble scaffolding, shoring, braces, and other temporary structures
  • Assist in the building and positioning of concrete forms
  • Operate a variety of tools and small power equipment
  • Ensure completed work assignments meet quality standards and within project schedule
  • Clean up jobsite rubble and debris
  • Ensure onsite tools and materials are maintained in a proper fashion
  • Maintain, organize and clean job site at all times
  • Other duties as assigned by President and Superintendent
  • Obey the Scherer Construction / OSHA safety standards at all times

Job Skills, Knowledge, Training and Experience :

  • Knowledge of various types of construction practices
  • Sound knowledge of proper use of tools, equipment, machines, and materials of the trade
  • Ability to follow directions and pre-established guidelines
  • Mathematical skills necessary to take and compute measurements
  • Ability to get along with others and work in teams
  • Ability to analyze and resolve problems
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines
  • Self-motivated
  • Maintain a positive attitude

Education and Training Requirements :

1 2 years work experience in construction or related field

Erik Otte Erik Otte is the President of Scherer Construction of North Florida, LLC. He is a graduate of the University of North Florida with a degree in Building Construction and a decade of experience on large scale government projects.

Erik joined our team in 2015 as a project manager and quickly cemented himself as a leader in our company, successfully managing not only his many projects, but also the concrete division of our company.

In 2019 he was elected as the President of Scherer Construction by his fellow company leadership based upon his propensity for smart innovation, problem solving, and his hands-on leadership style.

In addition to being busy at work, Erik has a full schedule outside of the office with his fianc, three sons, and three dogs.

Josh Dixon Josh Dixon is the Executive Vice President of Scherer Construction of North Florida, LLC. Josh graduated from Flagler College, then joined our team as an intern while in the Masters program at the M.

E. Rinker School of Building Construction at UF, with a goal of eventually relocating back to the First Coast. This goal was realized in 2008 when he opened our Jacksonville office.

Outside of work, Josh enjoys spending time with his wife and three children as well as fishing, surfing, and shooting sporting clays.

He is an active volunteer for the Boy Scouts North Florida Council and a member of Oceanside Rotary in Atlantic Beach.

Jim A. Crookston Jim Crookston is the President of Scherer Construction of West Florida, LLC, located in St. Petersburg, Florida.

In 1984, he joined the company as a project manager and, while working closely with design staff, quickly developed a knack for attention to detail that has won him praise from both customers and subcontractors.

Jim is a graduate of the Engineering Design program at Hoover Technical School in Canton, Ohio, and holds certification as a General Contractor and a Building Contractor.

His work life is augmented by his participation at his church, being a father of six, and by his enjoyment as an avid, long distance cyclist.

Douglas W. Wilcox, II Doug Wilcox is the CEO of Scherer Construction of North Florida, LLC. After starting as a draftsman, superintendent, and project manager at Scherer Construction in St.

Petersburg in 1987, he went on to open the Gainesville office in 1991, taking what was essentially a one person satellite office and turning it into the thriving 70-person operation it is today.

Doug is a graduate of the University of Florida Rinker School of Building Construction and holds certifications as a General Contractor, a Roofing Contractor, and an Underground Utility and Excavation Contractor.

As a balance to his professional life, Doug enjoys his time as a private airplane pilot and a hunting enthusiast.
