A day in this role

It’s 2 : 00 pm on Monday. You clock in, review the work orders, and pull the correct sheet metal and tooling. You load an Amada laser, retrieve the CNC program, and fine-tune parameters for a crisp, accurate cut. When an alarm pops up, you diagnose the issue and get production back on track. You remove finished parts from the nest, deburr them using both manual and automated tools, and transfer them to the next routing step. Between jobs, you switch over to the Amada press brake to form simple bends, verify dimensions against engineered drawings with calipers and micrometers, and document any process tweaks that reduce cycle time. Throughout your shift, you coordinate with programmers, move material with a forklift and overhead crane, and wrap up by performing basic PMs and 5S so the area is clean and ready for the next run.

What you’ll tackle

• Produce flat and formed sheet metal parts to exact drawing specifications.
• Operate Amada laser and Amada press brake; manually program and form simple bends.
• Select proper material, programs, and dies based on the work order.
• Set up tooling; pull, review, and adjust preprogrammed machine instructions.
• Troubleshoot cut quality, tool wear, and equipment alarms.
• Continuously refine processes to improve quality and reduce cycle time.
• Deburr using manual and automatic equipment; move parts to the next routing step.
• Shake out / remove completed parts from the laser nests.
• Handle and store raw materials using a forklift and overhead crane.
• Collaborate daily with programmers; perform basic PMs and maintain 5S.
