Tax Manager
JPI has an exciting opportunity for a Tax Manager to join our Finance team located in Dallas, Texas. The Tax Manager will serve as the central point of coordination for all tax-related compliance and strategy activities across JPI's multifamily and commercial real estate portfolio. This role will partner closely with external advisors and internal teams to ensure timely, accurate compliance, optimize tax efficiency, and provide transparent reporting to investors and stakeholders.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
Tax Compliance & Coordination
- Act as the primary liaison between JPI and external tax advisors, consultants, and legal counsel.
- Track and manage deadlines for federal, state, and local tax filings across all active and legacy projects.
- Ensure timely preparation and distribution of K-1s and other investor tax documents.
- Maintain a centralized calendar and workflow system for all tax deliverables.
Investor Communication & Distribution
Partner with accounting, capital, and asset management teams to compile and verify investor tax packages.Oversee accurate and timely delivery of tax documents to owners and investors in compliance with partnership and lender agreements.Respond to owner and investor inquiries regarding tax documentation, coordinating resolution with advisors as needed.Sales, Use, Franchise & Property Taxes
Monitor and coordinate compliance with sales and use tax obligations across all jurisdictions where JPI operates.Oversee franchise tax filings to ensure timely submission in accordance with state requirements.Collaborate with external advisors to resolve issues and minimize exposure to penalties.Manage real and personal property tax liabilities, including coordinating appeal cycles with advisors.Procurement Company Oversight & Optimization
Evaluate the role of the procurement company to ensure compliance with multi-state sales tax laws and prevent unintended exposure of JPI's various entities.Implement and oversee the compliance framework for the procurement company, including documentation, reporting processes, and clear do's and don'ts for business users.Leverage the procurement company structure to identify opportunities for optimizing sales tax impact across jurisdictions.Partner with advisors and internal stakeholders to maintain controls, safeguard entity integrity, and align procurement operations with JPI's overall tax strategy.Tax Strategy & Efficiency
Support the development and implementation of tax-efficient structures for JPI and its multifamily developments.Assess the impact of legislative and regulatory changes on JPI's tax strategy.Collaborate with legal and finance teams to evaluate tax implications of acquisitions, dispositions, and joint ventures.Documentation & Reporting
Maintain organized records of all tax filings, correspondence, and advisor communications.Prepare internal reports on compliance status and tax planning initiatives.Support audit readiness and documentation for internal and external reviews.Non-essential Functions & Responsibilities
Other duties as assigned.Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or advanced tax certification preferred.Minimum 5 years of experience in real estate tax coordination, preferably in multifamily or commercial real estate.Strong understanding of partnership tax structures, real estate compliance, and investor reporting.Proven organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.Experience working with external advisors and cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment.Why work for us?
