Electrical Project Estimator
The primary responsibility of this position is to prepare complete, accurate estimates for assigned projects of moderate to high complexity while ensuring profitability and compliance with contract requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Analysis
- Review and apply historical cost data, labor rates, productivity reports, and related information to establish accurate unit and man-hour figures.
- Analyze specifications, drawings, addenda, and pre-bid documentation to determine project scope and requirements.
- Perform detailed quantity takeoffs and prepare comprehensive estimates.
- Complete estimates in sufficient time to review with the Director of Estimating prior to submission.
- Provide value engineering suggestions when appropriate to improve efficiency or reduce costs.
- Account for all known risks in each bid to protect profitability and compliance.
- Maintain acceptable profitability margins on all bids.
Bid Management & Risk Control
Draft and submit RFIs (Requests for Information) before the deadline and follow up on responses.Independently manage all estimating tasks for assigned bids / projects.Run bids and attend job walks as needed to support accurate scope development.Follow up on bids submitted to confirm client receipt and address outstanding items.Actively seek new bidding opportunities to expand the client's market presence.Client Relations
Build and maintain positive relationships with clients to support long-term business growth.Provide cost and feasibility data when requested to support client decision-making.Documentation & File Management
Maintain company file structure, ensuring all quotes, correspondence, and vital project documentation are properly saved.Maintain clear and organized digital files of all working documents as back-up for estimated costs.Project Turnover & Support
Conduct comprehensive turnovers to the Operations Department, ensuring they are set up for success on project execution.Perform additional assignments as directed by the supervisor.Skills, Knowledge, and Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, or an equivalent combination of technical training and professional experience.4–7 years of estimating, cost control, and / or engineering experience within the construction industry.Experience preparing conceptual estimates, especially in design-build projects, preferred.Strong proficiency in estimating techniques and cost control methodologies.Ability to interpret and apply computerized cost data and systems accurately.Proficient in Trimble Accubid, Trimble LiveCount (on-screen takeoff), Procore, Pantera, Bluebeam Revu, and Microsoft Office Suite.Additional Information
Operates with minimal supervision when preparing routine proposals.Requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple estimates with accuracy and attention to detail.
