The ASE Certified Automotive Technician will provide services and support to the NASA Armstrong Flight Research Center contract located at Edwards AFB, California and Palmdale, California. The ASE Certified Automotive Technician will perform duties primarily associated with SCA Labor Category Automotive Worker from the SCA Directory of Occupations 5th edition .
Duties include but are not limited to :
- Provide automotive technician services and parts support for in-house fleet vehicle maintenance, repairs, and services.
- Maintain and repair AFRC vehicles in accordance with FMR 102-34, NPR 6200 and the NASA Fleet Handbook.
- Conduct routine maintenance on vehicles and equipment, including but not limited to : Oil changes, tire rotations, filter replacements, brake and hydraulic, exhaust, primary fuel ignition and electrical, suspension and alignment, air conditioning and computer systems.
- Adequately explain technical diagnoses and needed repairs to non-mechanical individuals.
- Stay current with rapidly changing automotive technology through continuous paid formal training.
- Assist technicians / mechanics in performing technical activities.
- Use schematics and diagnostic tools to identify and resolve electrical issues
- Perform inspections to ensure vehicles and equipment meet safety standards
- Operate power tools and other specialized equipment to complete repairs
Requirements
A.S.E. certification in at least one of A1-A8 (L1 certification acceptable)Must have a valid automobile driver's license at all times and be able to drive customer and company vehiclesProven experience as a MechanicStrong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting skillsProficient in using power tools and diagnostic equipmentStrong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accuratelySkilled in general automotive maintenanceCurrent federal, state and local certification / license where applicableAbility to communicate technical information to non-technical peopleReading, writing, and math skills.Preferred Qualifications3 years of automotive repair experience, demonstrated skills via third party assessments / certifications, or completion of Vocational-Technical School ProgramMust have clean driving recordAbility to obtain and retain a Secret security clearanceMust be able to clearly read, write, speak, and comprehend EnglishAbility to safely lift up to 50 lbsAbility to perform the physical requirements of the position including being on your feet most of the day and lifting requirementsAbility to be trained and certified for position requirementsBenefits
