Job Summary :
The Junior Estimator will report to the Director of Preconstruction and Estimating and is responsible for preparing cost calculations to determine the financial requirements of completing a project. This includes buyouts for new scopes of work and pricing for changes to contracted work. The company is a high-end, custom residential builder, with projects ranging from technically complex pre-war co-ops and townhouses in New York City to multi-structured ground-up estates, historic preservation, and major renovation projects.
Responsibilities :
Manage and organize bid documents and project drawings
Solicit and track subcontractor and supplier pricing
Review drawings and perform quantity takeoffs
Maintain and update subcontractor directories and reference databases
Prepare RFIs (Requests for Information) and communicate with the design team
Coordinate with subcontractors, design teams, and internal teams through meetings, formal correspondence, and phone calls
Support with change order pricing, subcontractor selection, and special projects as needed
Key Skills :
Strong project planning and time management skills
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings (blueprints)
Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including use of formulas
Experience with digital takeoff tools (e.g., On-Screen Takeoff, Plan Swift, Bluebeam, or similar)
Solid understanding of construction sequences and trade scopes
Effective written and verbal communication skills
Experience & Education :
Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related technical field
2 to 3 years of relevant experience preferred
Hands-on construction experience is a plus
