Job Summary

Under general supervision, administers respiratory care and life support to patients with cardiopulmonary system deficiencies and abnormalities. Trains and acts as a resource for respiratory department technicians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Professional Responsibilities :
• Provides a positive and professional representation of the organization.
• Promotes culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
• Maintains hospital standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to maintain a positive patient care experience.
• Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in related scope of job role or practice.
• Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
• Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
• Maintains compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards.
• Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.
• Demonstrates excellent customer service through his / her attitude and actions, consistent with the standards contained in the Vision, Mission, and Values of the organization.
• Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and TJC standards and / or standards from other accrediting bodies.
• Core Duties :
• Evaluate patient and render appropriate care utilizing departmental policies / procedures and / or patient driven protocol
• Adjust therapy in response to patient needs and / or physician direction and orders
• Evaluate patients through interview with patient or family obtaining oral history, review of chart and correct patient identification
• Demonstrates correct usage of equipment and follows correct procedure for reporting equipment malfunctions
• Monitors patient during procedure and demonstrates / verbalizes appropriate response during emergencies
• Maximizes patient's comfort and safety while providing effective communication
• Prepares documentation that provides complete and accurate information to provide quality patient care
• Demonstrates correct usage of PPE and follows infection control policies and procedures
• Serves as a preceptor in training students
• Provides effective communication with physicians
• Adjust approach and testing based on patient population
