Inbound Transportation Manager
The Inbound Transportation Manager will be responsible for leading a team to ensure cost-effective, on-time performance for all Collect and Import shipments in their area of responsibility. Inspire their team to continuously raise the bar, while taking responsibility for all day-to-day operational duties including monitoring, tracking and tracing carrier pick-ups and deliveries from vendors daily, communicating service challenges and updating systems as appropriate.
The Manager will support their team and work closely with inbound transportation functional teams, DC Receiving Managers, DC Warehouse management, Replenishment and the Buying staff to minimize inbound freight expense while optimizing service and fill rates through effective planning and managing of orders.
Effectively communicate and implement all inbound transportation strategies, programs, procedures and policies.
Responsible for $175M in freight spend
Lead projects and strategic events ensuring required inventory is delivered on time, communicating any challenges / delays.
Support, enable, and coach team to analyze shipment data to optimize shipment sizes and mode of transportation; problem solving for the lowest cost solution to provide on-time service. Targeting underperforming areas including root cause analysis, action plans for performance improvement, and prepaid to collect conversions.
Develop, monitor and act upon daily, weekly and periodic carrier service and cost reports
Develop and maintain strong relationships with freight forwarders, monitor their performance and ensure they meet contractual obligations and operational standards.
Ensure operational strategies and activities are completed and meet or beat annual and monthly budget expectations.
Support operational disaster recovery to ensure business continuity.
Organize and prioritize workload and tasks for associates to ensure proper flow of operational and tactical information.
Ensure the proper level of communication and customer service response by the analyst team
Establish and report measurable individual and team goals
Motivate, coach and inspire team members for optimal performance and execution
Hire and train team members to a standard
Administer routine performance evaluations
Complete other various assignments, as required
Bachelor's degree with a major in business, logistics or finance is required
5-7 years of transportation experience
Minimum of 3 years direct associate management experience
Experience in development of strategic operational logistics solutions
Extensive knowledge of LTL, truckload and intermodal operations, inbound routing optimization
Strong knowledge of international shipping, freight management, and cross dock warehouse operations.
Extensive computer skills, to include Excel, Word and Outlook, with the aptitude to learn new applications as needed
Ability to conceive, develop and implement new ideas, procedures and processes
Should exhibit initiative, dependability, ability to work with minimal direct supervision
Strong organizational, administrative, written and verbal skills
Ability to work with people at different levels within and outside of the company
Must possess qualities of integrity, discretion and strong ethics
Ability to be successful in a changing environment and lead through the ambiguity of change
Experience in retail industry and / or large transportation company
Previous transportation work experience with a multi-billion dollar organization
Working knowledge of OTM, Retek, C3, Vantage.
