Product Engineer is an integral team member for HVAC and hydronics product testing, development and design. Provide mechanical drawings, documentation and Bills of Material necessary for production, costing and sales selection programs. Work closely with the manufacturing and sales teams and provide necessary design support where required. Cross disciplinary lines to provide technical support and solutions to both internal and external customers.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the design of all products manufactured by HPT. This includes energy recovery and hydronics products such as pumped systems.

  • Maintain Autodesk Inventor models and Work Order generation programs to accurately define product design. Apply programming techniques (such as Inventor iLogic and VB) to make designs highly configurable.

  • Provide mechanical drawings, design documentation, Work Orders and BOMs for Operations.

  • Apply standardized processes so others can generate the requisite information. Oversee the process.

  • Coordinate feedback from Sales and Production to continuously improve product designs.

  • Generate mechanical and other drawings and design documentation for new products.

  • Work with Sales, Production and R&D to develop new products. Perform the majority of design engineering work, bringing in help from colleagues when appropriate. Design sheet metal, piping & instrumentation, mechanical systems and controls within the scope of the project.

  • Develop the design documentation for Operations and furnish Sales with technical documentation such as Installation, Operation and Maintenance manuals.

  • Maintain all technical literature.

  • Work closely with the manufacturing team in resolving immediate production issues in a timely manner.

  • Provide technical data as necessary for Sales in support of custom project bids and design.

  • Identify innovative opportunities to improve existing products and develop new products.

  • Work alongside the R&D Engineer to develop testing processes and lead in developing prototypes.

  • Prioritize opportunities and determine practical feasibility by using solid engineering practices, including testing, research and modeling for obtaining optimal solutions.

  • Provide Sales with technical support including establishing guidelines, reviewing unique applications and after-sales support.

  • Understand relevant standards, guidelines and industry practices and how they impact our designs.

  • Familiar with the features and limitations of manufacturing machinery and processes. Design current solutions within constraints of machinery or processes and propose new machines or processes to support growth.

  • Identify own gaps in technical knowledge and seek input from others on projects or seek appropriate training.

  • Other responsibilities as assigned.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering

Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in sheet metal design and other fabrication in Manufacturing environment. Experience with hydronics, refrigeration systems and psychrometric chart analysis is preferred.

Computer Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs such as Excel, Word, Access and Project.

  • Proficient in Autodesk Inventor. Transferable proficiency in other CAD systems considered (e.g. Solidworks).

  • Able to write VB code to automate CAD and Excel tools.
