JOB DESCRIPTION

The professor must teach undergraduate pedagogy courses and serve on university, college, and department committees. They must demonstrate a commitment to the education profession through presentations at the P-12 and collegiate levels, participate in research to stay current in the field and demonstrate an ongoing commitment to teaching excellence. Supervise student teachers.

A college professor should have excellent verbal and communication skills; they should have a high level of knowledge and be well organized.

Good personality traits for college professors include a high level of enthusiasm, self-confidence and the willingness to mentor students.

  • PED 100 Educational Seminar / Fall / Spring
  • PED 131 Pre-Clinical & Introduction to Education / Fall / Spring
  • PED 132 Pre-Clinical & Introduction to Special Ed (team teaching) / Spring PED 133 Pre-Clinical & Introduction to ELL (team teaching) / Fall
  • PED 134, 136 Pre-Clinicals N & VI (management only) / Spring
  • PED 203 Foundations / Methods of Education / Spring
  • PED 314 Culturally Sustained Pedagogy (team teaching) / Spring
  • PED 409 Instructional Strategies / Methods for Secondary / Fall
  • PED 411 Educational Assessment / Fall
  • PED 485, 495 Student Teaching Secondary / Fall / Spring
  • Oversee all pre-clinical and clinical assignments
  • Engage in research in the chosen field
  • Collaborate with colleagues regarding their research interests
  • Publish in scholarly journals
  • Present findings and research at academic conferences
  • Participate in collegiate faculty meetings
  • Participate in departmental faculty meetings
  • Participate in committees
  • Actively serve college and community .
  • Model a service leadership mindset in all activities and interactions with stakeholders.
  • Design, revise, and update courses and materials based on new developments in current events and research findings
  • Consult with program and course directors, other faculty members, advisory committees, industry partners, potential employers, and students.
  • Define, evaluate, and validate course objectives
  • Develop individualized instruction using a variety of well-designed instructional material, including multimedia presentations and current interactive technologies, focusing primarily on experiential and project-based learning.
  • Select or improve textbooks and learning materials
  • Ensure student engagement awareness of course objectives, approach, and evaluation techniques
  • Carry out regularly scheduled instruction
  • Provide a learning environment that makes effective use of available resources, work experience, and field trips
  • Evaluate student progress / achievement and is responsible for the timely overall assessment of the student's work within assigned courses.
  • Contribute to other areas as well as the professorial role, such as student recruitment and selection, timetabling, facility design, professional development, student employment, and control of supplies and equipment

Advisement

  • B.Ed. in Secondary Education students
  • Evaluate students and their academic progress
  • Advise students regarding coursework, time management, and assignments
  • Advise M.Ed. in Teaching students

REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION :

Minimum requirement :

  • Master's degree in P-12 teaching or administration and several hours completed toward an Ed.D. or Ph.D.
  • 5 years of P-12 teaching and / or P-12 administration experience
  • Experience in teaching at the higher education level

Preferred :

Ed.D. or Ph.D. in education or a related field

EXPERIENCE / SKILLS / ABILITIES :

  • Strong pedagogical content knowledge and skills
  • Supervision skills of internship candidates
  • Knowledge of integration of technology skills during classroom teaching
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and database software programs required
  • Demonstrate excellence in teaching
  • Show commitment to integrating coursework into the learning process
