We are looking for a Powertrain Test Engineer to work in Ann Arbor. This is a contract role with LER Techforce that is initially for months but has a probability to go long term. The Powertrain Test Engineer plays a critical role in supporting the development, validation, and optimization of advanced propulsion systems, powertrain components, and vehicle-level technologies. This position combines strong engineering fundamentals with hands-on testing expertise to ensure high‐quality, reliable test results that drive technical decision‐making across customer programs.
Key Responsibilities - Plan, execute, and document test activities for engine, vehicle, and electrified propulsion systems.
- Develop and validate test procedures, instrumentation setups, and test sequences to ensure repeatability and accuracy.
- Analyze test data using AVL software tools (, Concerto, Cameo, IndiCom) and generate clear, actionable engineering reports.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, controls, calibration, and operations teams to support development milestones and resolve technical issues.
- Ensure test environment safety, maintain equipment integrity, and adhere to quality processes and ISO/IEC standards.
- Participate in continuous improvement of test methodologies, workflows, automation, and laboratory efficiency.
- Support customer projects, presenting technical findings and contributing to test planning discussions.
Required Qualifications - Practical experience with engine, powertrain, or vehicle test systems in a laboratory or development environment.
- Proficiency in data acquisition systems, control systems, and measurement devices (pressure, temperature, emissions, electrical systems, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills with attention to detail and data quality.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, test specifications, and control strategies.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications - Familiarity with AVL tools and systems (PACT, Puma, LMM, Cameo, Concerto, etc.).
- Experience with hybrid and electric powertrains, battery systems, or e‐drivetrain testing.
- Knowledge of automation scripts, test cell optimization, or LabVIEW/MATLAB.
- Understanding of calibration workflows and vehicle development cycles.
- Prior experience working with OEMs or engineering service providers.
