Position Overview
Are you ready to take the next step in your career? We're looking for a motivated Assistant Laboratory Manager to join our team! In this role, you'll play a key part in overseeing the daily operations of our geotechnical and construction materials testing laboratory , which specializes in concrete, aggregate, soil, rock, masonry, and asphalt testing.
As Assistant Lab Manager, you'll work closely with our leadership team to ensure smooth operations, support and mentor lab staff, and coordinate project samples for timely and accurate testing. This is a hands-on opportunity to contribute to important infrastructure and construction projects while developing your career in a supportive and growth-focused environment.
Responsibilities
- Performance or coordination of geotechnical laboratory testing, including classification, compaction, shear, consolidation, swell, and compressive strength of borings
- Performance or coordination of construction materials testing on concrete specimens, soil specimens, flowable fill, aggregate, masonry, and asphalt
- Coordination and scheduling of laboratory testing assignments
- Performing, and / or coordinating others in, timely calibrations and maintenance of field and laboratory equipment to industry codes and standards
- Maintaining documentation of equipment maintenance and calibrations for compliance with AASHTO and AASHTO Accreditation Program requirements, including internal and external audits
- Frequent use of gINT or Geosystems and field and laboratory information management systems, for recording and reporting testing results
Qualifications
High school diploma / GED requiredMinimum 3 years combined experience in laboratory geotechnical and construction materials testingFamiliarity with ASTM and AASHTO test methods specific to geotechnical and construction materials, AASHTO R18 Quality Management System (or comparable), Experience with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel), geotechnical and material testing equipment, and calibration procedures requiredValid driver's license, with acceptable driving recordBasic Microsoft Office skillsGood written and verbal communication skills requiredAble to work independently and as part of a team with a focus on producing high-quality workPreferred Qualifications :
2+ years of supervisory or leadership experience5+ years of direct laboratory experience in construction materials testingPreferred Certifications :
ACI Concrete Strength Testing TechnicianTxDOT Certification(s) in applicable testing areasNICET Certification in Construction Materials TestingAggregate Testing CertificationTravel Requirements
This position does not require regular travel as part of its primary responsibilities. However, occasional travel may be required, up to 10%, primarily for off-site meetings, training sessions, or company events. Travel, when necessary, will be communicated in advance and aligned with business needs.
Physical Demands & Work Environment
Work is primarily conducted in a laboratory environment, with occasional exposure to adjacent operational or industrial areas. Conditions may include :Prolonged exposure to moderate to loud noise levels from lab equipment, ventilation systems, and instrumentation.
Routine handling of chemicals, biological samples, and other lab materials, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.Regular use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as lab coats, gloves, safety goggles, and respiratory protection as needed.Potential exposure to fumes, chemical odors, dust, and temperature fluctuations depending on lab ventilation and activities.Physical requirements include :Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. of lab equipment, containers, or samples as needed.
Ability to stand or walk for extended periods while performing experiments or lab procedures.Frequent use of hands and arms for pipetting, instrument calibration, typing, labeling, and material handling.Ability to bend, twist, reach, stoop, kneel, or crouch to access equipment, supplies, or perform tasks at various heights.Ability to communicate clearly in verbal and written form while working in a laboratory team environment.Visual acuity to perform detailed work, including close vision, color differentiation, and the ability to detect fine measurements or anomalies.EEO Statement
