Product Design Engineer
Job Requirements : Provide technical product design and integration of products to meet customer requirements. Work closely with account managers, manufacturing engineers at the plants and the customer engineering team to develop workable manufactural solutions and troubleshoot issues. Work closely with account management / customers to develop a workable fluid flow system layout and to identify and resolve system-level issues. Act as engineering face to customer. Design and integrate exhaust products / systems for on-highway and off-highway markets to meet customer requirements. Generate / maintain detailed models of designs and system level bill of materials. Generate specifications for product (2D prints, engineering specifications, etc.). Initiate and coordinate the technical support work (including mechanical design, FEA, and CFD analyses, acoustical, flow and vibration testing, drafting, prototypes, etc.) required to develop system components against technical profile deliverables. Work closely with manufacturing personnel to optimize designs for manufacturability and cost reduction. Ensure DFM (Design for Manufacturability) is implemented in development of design (DQR, DVA, Design Reviews, etc.). Maintain and manage project schedules. Travel to customer and supplier sites as necessary, perform on-site testing, and present technology. Review / approve / process Customer Print Conformance. Up to 25% domestic and international travel required.
This position requires a Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, plus 4 years of experience as a Product Design Engineer, Senior Engineer, Mechanical Engineer, or related occupation. Additionally, the applicant must have employment experience with : (1) Developing product designs using solid modeling tools including Inventor; (2) Utilizing Six Sigma to identify and analyze issues in areas of process and product improvement; (3) Implementing knowledge of acoustics, vehicle chassis systems, and exhaust components / aftertreatment to design and develop exhaust tubes, mufflers, thermal systems and structural components to meet customer, DFM (Design for manufacturing), and regulatory requirements; (4) Utilizing CAD modeling / print creation to communicate with the customer and manufacturing engineers regarding part / assembly design and capabilities to meet the fit, form, and functional requirements; (5) Utilizing Cetol Six Sigma tolerance analysis software to complete 3D dimensional variation analysis; and (6) Analyzing thermal expansion interactions to reduce failures in muffler and thermal system designs.
