PT Instructor/Advisor - Math & Science (Adult High School Program) Grant Funded

Description

Halifax Community College, as part of a regional consortium with Martin Community College and Roanoke-Chowan Community College, seeks a Part-Time Instructor to teach Mathematics and Science in a fully online Adult High School (AHS) diploma program. This hybrid teaching position supports adult learners in North Carolina’s Tier I counties who are working to complete their high school diploma in a flexible, virtual format.

Examples of Duties

Instructional Duties

• The instructor will deliver standard-aligned math and science instruction, support student learning and retention, and help prepare learners for post secondary education or workforce pathways.

• Provide engaging and rigorous instruction in mathematics and science courses appropriate for high school diploma completion.

• Deliver courses online using the program’s learning management system(e.g., Moodle or Canvases).

• Develop and adapt instructional material that align with North Carolina Adult High School Standards.

Student Support

• Foster a supportive virtual classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning needs and adult education best practices.

• Maintain regular communication with students to encourage courage completion and academic success.

• Offer virtual office hours and provide individualized support as needed.

• Work collaboratively with the AHS Program Director and other instructors to address students' challenges and promote retention.

Assessment and Recordkeeping

• Administer and monitor required assessments, including pre=and post-test when applicable..

• Track and report student attendance, progress, grades and participation in a timely and accurate manner.

• Contribute data and insights for periodic program evaluations and reports.

Collaboration

• Participate in team meetings (Virtual or in-person with the AHS Program Director and consortium staff)

• Share instructional strategies and coordinate content delivery with other facility members

• Maintain open lines of communication with instructional leadership to support program goals.
  
  
  

Minimum/Required Qualifications

Minimum Education and Training

• Bachelor's degree in Math, Science, Education, or a related field from a regionally accredited institution.

• At least one year of teaching experience in math. Science, or education preferably with high school or adult learners.

• Experience teaching online in an online or hybrid format and using digital instructional tools. Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently while maintaining alignment with program standards and expectations.

Preferred Education and Training

• Master’s degree in a related field.

• Current or prior North Caroline teaching license in English, Social Studies, or Secondary Education.

• Experience working with adult learners, high school equivalency programs, or alternative education settings.

• Familiarity with WIOA Title II funded programs or North Carolina Community College Adult education systems.

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
