Job Title : Phlebotomist IJob Description
The primary role of a Phlebotomist I is to assist in performing various assigned duties including troubleshooting, training, and making workflow recommendations. You will be responsible for collecting and storing specimens according to established procedures, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of each sample.
Responsibilities
Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, and record maintenance data.
Decontaminate equipment and update patient information.
Explain the venipuncture process clearly and courteously to patients.
Demonstrate techniques using straight or butterfly needles.
Understand and follow all physicians' orders.
Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes.
Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.
Check test requisitions or computer labels against scripts for accuracy.
Package specimens for transport and store samples at required temperatures.
Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations and attend annual department trainings.
Answer telephone inquiries and read laboratory results to satisfy inquiries.
Essential Skills
1-2 years of recent phlebotomy experience.
Proficiency in blood draws from pediatric to geriatric patients.
Strong venipuncture skills.
Customer service skills, demonstrating respect and understanding towards patients.

Work Environment
The position is based at a Patient Service Center, operating Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM. This is a contract role for now, with training required for about one week at the start. The work involves both team and independent settings, covering a range of locations. The environment handles specimens from pediatric to geriatric patients and requires excellent customer service skills to work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $17.75 - $18.75 / hr.
