Senior Backend Software Engineer

About the Role

Wing is looking for a Senior Backend Software Engineer to join our Ground Systems Engineering team based in Palo Alto, CA .

This role will directly contribute to building and scaling the systems that enable safe and efficient drone operations worldwide, focusing on our commercially-facing services and uncrewed air traffic management. You will work on complex challenges at the forefront of aviation and technology, helping to extend Wing's drone delivery to more partners and customers. Our Ground Systems team builds safe, reliable, and scalable systems with a customer-first mindset to support business growth.

This position seeks highly motivated individuals who enjoy working in a dynamic and collaborative environment. A successful candidate will be able to identify areas in need of investment, set solution strategy, influence team direction, and directly impact through technical contributions, while designing and building complex systems.

What You’ll Do

• Engineering Design : Set engineering design strategy for yourself or a limited number of peers, cutting through ambiguity and pre-empting complicating factors.
• System Design & Development : Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain large-scale, distributed software systems including asynchronous pipelines, database systems, RPC handlers, in a privacy and security conscious ecosystem.
• Navigate Ambiguity : Investigate and build software in areas with limited domain expertise and make an immediate impact.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration : Partner with business partners, product managers, designers, and program managers to design, implement and launch new features.
• Incident Response & On-Call : Participate in an on-call rotation to address urgent production issues and implement long-term solutions.
• Team Culture : Contribute to a culture of support, engagement and quality to enable Wing to scale as a business.

What You’ll Need

The US base salary range for this full-time position is the salary range below plus bonus, equity and benefits. Salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your location during the hiring process.

Salary Range

$135,000 - $236,000 USD
