The John P. Murtha Cancer Center at Walter Reed Bethesda is a modern, patient-centric, tri-service military healthcare facility. Its comprehensive core of military and civilian oncologists and other cancer-trained clinicians and researchers provide multidisciplinary cancer-care delivery and patient-family support services. The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.

Responsibilities

  • Function as a Survivorship Coordinator for the Murtha Cancer Center Research Program in collaboration with departmental survivorship clinicians and departments providing supportive care from diagnosis through treatment and survivorship. Assess, plan, and evaluate the delivery of all survivorship programs and services for cancer patients in collaboration with the clinical team using the Commission on Cancer standards, NCCN standards, and standards appropriate to specific cancer patient populations.
  • Uses evidence-based guidelines and participates in the development of and implementation of the Oncology Treatment summary and Survivorship Care plan for Oncology Patients. Monitors patient outcomes and participates in quality improvement activities. Contributes to and collaborates with health care team members to positively impact patient outcomes and patient experiences while collaborating with the Murtha Cancer Center's Oncology Program leadership.
  • Collaborates with all Cancer Programs to identify patients nearing the end of their acute treatment; develops workflows to ensure that all eligible patients receive appropriate survivorship counseling / care plans. Demonstrates a high degree of expertise and act as a resource to facilitate and enhance the development of quality care for patients and their families.
  • Works with the information technology teams as needed to develop evidence based, site specific Oncology Treatment summary and Survivorship Care plans for survivorship for all relevant clinical services.
  • Plans, develops and implements educational programs for staff and physicians and other team members on the principles of survivorship and the workflows associated with the MCC survivorship program. Oversees survivorship programs including (but not limited to) Look Good Feel Better, Living Beyond Cancer Series, Annual Survivorship Days Celebration. Advocates with or on behalf of patients, families, and caregivers to remove barriers to quality care, to address gaps in services and to work for any changes needed to policies and programs.
  • Collaborates with oncology department to develop methods to document and track the delivery of patient survivorship care and other data using appropriate tracking tools. Participate in Cancer Center meetings and other committee meetings as needed. Collects and analyzes data and trends and report findings and other duties as assigned. Coordinates online delivery of video talks on health and wellbeing topics for cancer survivors such as nutrition, exercise, coping resources, and other supportive services.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years' experience required.
  • Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Experience working with oncology patients in a clinic / hospital setting.
  • Experience working with military patients is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Survivorship and program development preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal and computer skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and to work with individuals of all levels.
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain a T3 Secret Clearance.
  • Licenses and Certifications

  • Must be a Registered Nurse.
  • Must have a MD State Nursing license.
  • Certified in basic life support (BCLS).
  • Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in a clinic setting.
  • Compensation

  • The annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$115,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
