The School of Animal and Comparative Biomedical Sciences in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Arizona invites candidates to apply for the position of an Assistant Professor of Practice in Livestock Judging / Animal Science.
The hired faculty will be involved in the teaching of various courses for the Animal Sciences major and will also be the Coach of the University of Arizona Livestock Judging Team.
Livestock judges are important ambassadors for agriculture and influence countless youths and adults. This is a 12-month, year-to-year, non-tenure eligible faculty position, Instruction (65%), Extension (25%), and Service (10%).
This career-track appointment is not eligible for tenure.

Duties & Responsibilities
Teaching responsibilities include :
- Recruit high school and transfer students to the UA Animal Sciences and Judging programs
- Coach the UA Livestock Judging Team and compete at national and regional contests
- Procure and manage livestock utilized for judging and other teaching purposes
- Teach the following courses :
- Introduction to Competitive Livestock Judging (ACBS 297b, 2 units)
- Junior Livestock Judging Team (ACBS 396a, 2units)
- Senior Livestock Judging Team (ACBS 496b, 2 units)
- Other Animal Science courses in the candidate’s area of expertise
Extension responsibilities include :
- Coordinate state and regional 4-H / FFA livestock judging contests
- Host a summer judging camp for high school students
- Serve as official judge at fairs and other livestock shows
- This faculty member may also help develop new courses and activities that will contribute to increase student enrollment, retention, and degree completion
- Other duties may be assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :
- Demonstrated knowledge of livestock judging
- Demonstrated integrity, honesty, and good sportsmanship in competitive events
- Demonstrated skills in verbal and written scientific communication
Minimum Qualifications
- in Animal Sciences or equivalent
- Minimum two or more years of experience working in Livestock Judging
- Experience teaching university-level courses in Animal Sciences
- Possess a valid driver’s license upon employment and ability to drive according to the University .
Preferred Qualifications
- in Animal Sciences or equivalent
- Evidence of coaching success in competitive Livestock Judging
