The Patient Account Representative (PAR) will primarily focus on outstanding patient balance resolution. The role consists of incoming / outgoing customer service calls, collection of patient payments, assistance with financial options and other billing and collection activities as needed. This role requires a high degree of comfort interacting with patients, high attention to detail, strong organization skills and a self-starter attitude.
Job Responsibilities :
- Process and collect payments from patients and institutions.
- Establish and manage patient payment plans.
- Post payments and make necessary adjustments to patient accounts.
- Handle patient and insurance company correspondence, including emails and inbound phone calls.
- Conduct outbound collection calls to follow up on outstanding balances.
- Monitor and process patient credits and refunds.
- Review completed charity and sliding scale applications for completeness before submission to Patient Account Lead for eligibility determination.
- Respond to billing inquiries from patients, providers, and insurance companies.
- Accurately enter and update patient demographic and financial information in the system.
- Research and update incorrect or outdated addresses for returned mail.
- Scan and upload relevant patient information into the Practice Management System.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, industry standards and CND policies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills & Experience :
- Minimum 2+ years related experience required (experience with laboratory billing a plus).
- Prior experience in patient billing and collections, preferably in a medical or laboratory office setting.
- Strong working knowledge of patient and insurance billing processes, including CPT codes, ICD-10 codes, and laboratory billing guidelines.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills with the ability to clearly convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
- Excellent customer service skills with a proactive and professional approach.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- The ability to thrive in a fast-paced setting while managing multiple priorities.
- High level of accuracy and strong organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to professionally and patiently collect patient balances while maintaining positive and empathetic patient interactions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a focus on effective resolution.
Education, Certifications & Licensures :
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
Special Training :
- Salesforce, Quadax, Waystar or other EMR / Clearinghouse solutions.
Other :
- This position is a fully remote position. It may require travel for quarterly meetings in our Scottsdale, AZ headquarters or regional office in Atlanta, GA.
