About The Role
We are looking for a people-first Engineering Manager to lead and grow our Data Engineering team. In this role, your primary focus will be building careers, removing obstacles, and enabling a culture where engineers thrive.
Key Responsibilities
People Leadership
Lead, mentor, and retain a high-performing team of 5-7 data engineersConduct regular 1 : 1s, performance reviews, and career development planningCreate and communicate growth paths and development opportunitiesFoster a culture of collaboration, learning, and operational excellenceManage hiring, onboarding, and team compositionIdentify and remove roadblocks, shielding the team from unnecessary distractionsProactively address team dynamics and resolve conflicts constructivelyTechnical Partnership
Collaborate with the technical lead to ensure architectural decisions align with strategy and scalability goalsStay informed on emerging data engineering trends and assess their relevancePromote high standards for code quality, design, and operational practicesHelp balance technical trade-offs with business needs and prioritiesDelivery & Process Management (20%)
Partner with Product Managers to ensure engineering commitments are realistic and achievableLead incident response efforts and coordinate blameless post-mortemsMaintain adherence to engineering standards and Agile processesMonitor team health, velocity, and delivery risksFacilitate sprint ceremonies, retrospectives, and cross-team coordinationQualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience7+ years in engineering with 5+ years in people managementProven experience building and scaling engineering teamsSolid understanding of data engineering concepts (e.g., pipelines, data models)Agile / Scrum leadership experienceStrong communication skills and the ability to bridge technical and business discussionsHistory of developing engineering talent and fostering career progressionHigh emotional intelligence and conflict resolution abilitiesTechnical Familiarity (You Understand, Not Implement) :Big data tools (e.g., Spark, EMR, data pipelines)Cloud infrastructure and cost managementTechnical risk assessment and critical questioning skillsPreferred Qualifications
