• Work 12-hour shifts at 7 : 00 AM or 7 : 00 PM
• Night shifts with every other weekend requirement
• Holiday requirement : 2 out of 3 holidays
• Patient ratios : 1 nurse to 2 patients
• 8-bed PICU unit with average census of 2 patients
• Required certifications : BLS and PALS
• Minimum 2 years PICU experience required
• No first-time travelers accepted
• Dress code : Navy blue scrubs
• Use Cerner EMR system and Medfusion pumps
• Work with Spacelab tele monitors - nurses must read own strips
• Manage ventilators and various respiratory equipment
• Float to general pediatrics, burn unit for non-burn pediatric care, and NICU (voluntary)
• Travelers are first to float when census is low
• May be placed on standby if census is low
• Rarely serve as charge nurse
• No nurse aides available
• Floor-specific orientation : 2 PICU shifts, 1 pediatrics shift, 1 burn unit shift
• Treat patients with respiratory failure, dehydration, seizures, suicide attempts, overdoses, poisoning, and diabetic ketoacidosis
• Manage titratable drips including insulin, sedatives, heparin, and electrolyte replacements Facility : This healthcare facility features an 8-bed pediatric intensive care unit with 24 / 7 pediatric hospitalist intensivist coverage and comprehensive support services.
