Job description

The Technical Director for Maternal, Newborn, Child Health and Nutrition (MNCH-N) p rovides strategic leadership and technical expertise to FHI 360's global H ealth P rograms portfolio. Reporting to the Senior Director, Program Portfolio Technical , the Technical Director , MNCH- N establishes and continually refines MNCH and nutrition technical frameworks, approaches, and tools ; leads evidence-based programming; and ensures alignment with national and international health standards . They develop, implement, and evaluate programs aimed at improving maternal, child health, and nutritional outcomes . The Technical Director, MNCH-N will work closely with FHI 360 global team , United States Government (USG) Department of State (DOS) personnel, implementing partners, and Ministries of Health (MOH) to ensure timely development of workplans and m onitor all technical aspects of assigned MNCH and nutrition projects from initiation through delivery . The Technical Director also contributes to global thought leadership, supervises technical staff, and ensures that all technical activities meet donor, government, and FHI 360 requirements.

This is a remote position that can be based in any country where FHI 360 is currently registered.

Accountabilities :

Serves as the MNCH-N technical lead and key point of contact for the Health Programs portfolio.

Takes a technical leadership role to e nsure high quality technical deliverables-including workplans and annual reports-are developed, submitted and approved on schedule and within budget parameters.

Provides technical direction to evidence-based MNCH and Nutrition programming for facility and community-level interventions, based on local and global best practices , and in alignment with approved life-saving activities.

Provides strategic leadership on MNCH and nutrition policies and programming in ways that are sensitive and beneficial and in harmony with other MNCH and nutrition country programs and coordinating mechanisms.

Establishes and maintains partnerships with stakeholders including leading interactions with government institutions, subcontracted organizations, and the donor on a regular basis.

Develops and implements processes and procedures to achieve strategic technical goals of the Health Programs portfolio .

Contributes to program / project design, implementation, learning, and monitoring and evaluation through active collaboration with project teams and host-country government structures at central, regional, district and facility levels.

Contributes to policy development, advocacy, and strategic planning at the national and regional levels

Provides direction to ensure technical activities are compliant with donor regulations , government regulations and FHI 360 policies and procedures.

Responds to client requests and questions on technical matters , as appropriate .

Manages the monitoring and evaluation activities of a project including contributing to the finalization and submission of project work plans, performance monitoring plans (PMPs) and quarterly, annual, and other reports , as required .

Supports knowledge management within the project, including the capture and articulation of success stories, best practice and lessons learned and attends events relevant to the MNCH-N portfolio .

Supports performance management and professional development of direct reports, including ongoing feedback, coaching and career support.

Engages in writing publications and may contribute to developing proposals for new opportunities .

Identifies and consults with Health Programs leadership on technical recommendations in support of business decision making .

Performs other duties as assigned.

Applied Knowledge & Skills :

Comprehensive MNCH and nutrition knowledge of programming globally.

Experience expanding successful models to improve quality clinical care of MNCH and nutrition activities.

Demonstrated ability to work within a multi-faceted health development program in collaboration with national MOH personnel and other local partners involved in MNCH and nutrition programming.

A demonstrated track record in providing mentorship and supervision to strengthen healthcare services; training and use of quality improvement approaches.

Experience leading moderate to large size teams of health professionals.

Demonstrated ability to create and maintain effective working relations with Ministry of Health and district and regional officials, and other implementing partners

Excellent and demonstrated leadership, organizational , critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Excellent and demonstrated project management and technical skills.

Ability to influence, motivate, negotiate and work well with others both at the HQ and country-level .

Ability to exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.

Comprehensive knowledge of concepts, practices and policies related to MNCH and nutrition.

Problem Solving & Impact :

Works on problems of complex scope and require in depth evaluation of issues and assessment of intangible factors.

Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies to select methods and techniques for obtaining results.

Supervision Given / Received :

Typically provides direct supervision of a team of Technical Advisors and Technical Officers.

Leads and directs staff to achieve strategic project goals.

Coordinates with project lead s to set budgets, goals, and develops procedures and training for assigned projects .

Develops and recommends project management solutions.

Qualifications :

Master's Degree or its International Equivalent in Communication and Social Marketing, Economic Development, Education, Health, Nutrition, Research, Technology and Youth or a Related Field. A clinical background with public health training is strongly preferred.

Minimum of 12+ years of relevant technical / project management experience (including 8+ years of leadership, strong business acumen and / or line management experience).

Experience leading USG-funded MNCH and / or nutrition projects.

Prior work experience in a non-governmental organization (NGO) is preferred.

Excellent oral and written communication and analytical skills in English , fluency in a second language an added advantage (e.g., French, Spanish, Portuguese) .

Typical Physical Demands :

Typical office environment.

Ability to spend long hours looking at computer screen and doing repetitive work on a keyboard.

Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time.

Ability to lift or move up to 5 lbs.

Technology to be Used :

Computer / Laptop, Microsoft applications (i.e., Office 365, SharePoint, Skype / Zoom / Teams), cell phone / mobile technology, and standard office equipment.

Travel Requirements :

Less than 25%

The expected US Based hiring salary range for this role is listed below. Candidates FHI 360 pay ranges represent national averages that vary by geographic location. When determining an offer amount, FHI 360 factors in multiple considerations, including but not limited to : relevant years of experience and education possessed by the applicant, internal equity, business sector, and budget.

Base salary is only one component of our offer. FHI 360 contributes 7 % of monthly base pay to a money purchase pension plan account. Additionally, all US based staff working full-time, which is calculated at 40 hours / week, receive 18 days of paid vacation per year, 12 sick days per year, and 11 holidays per year. Paid time off is reduced pro rata for employees working less than a full-time schedule.

US Based Hiring Salary Range : USD 145,000 - 170,000

International hiring ranges will differ based on location
