About the Job

Required Qualifications :

  • PhD in Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
  • Programming experience (Matlab, Python)
  • Experience in image processing and analysis
  • Experience with MRI data, in particular diffusion MRI processing and analysis skills
  • Peer reviewed research publications in reputed journals in the field

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience with MRI data in neurological disorders such as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Parkinson's disease.
  • Experience with Linux operating system and shell scripting
  • Experience with diffusion MRI processing tools available in software packages like FSL and MRtrix.

Job description :

This is an opportunity for a highly motivated and enthusiastic engineering PhD graduate to conduct sophisticated biomedical image processing and analysis for imaging biomarker development and validation in neurological disorders.

Specifically, the candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team of researchers and clinicians who are part of a multicenter imaging study in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

The candidate will lead the integration of the data from all study sites, multimodal longitudinal biomarker development in collaboration with biostatistics colleagues, and the dissemination of data and findings through peer-reviewed publications.

The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to be involved in other related projects at the Center for Magnetic Resonance Research (CMRR) at the University of Minnesota.

About CMRR :

The CMRR is one of the world's premier magnetic resonance imaging facilities, with considerable expertise in imaging physics, engineering, and clinical research.

The Center focuses on development of unique magnetic resonance (MR) imaging and spectroscopy methodologies and instrumentation for the acquisition of structural, functional, and biochemical information non-invasively in humans, and utilizing this capability to investigate organ function in health and disease.

Collectively, the approaches and instrumentation developed in CMRR constitute some of the most important tools used today to study system level organ function and physiology in humans for basic and translational research and are increasingly applied world-wide.

Responsibilities

  • Perform data QC and analysis from the three study sites (UMN, UFL and Northwestern University) during the study period (3-4 years).
  • Correct MRI data for distortions and artifacts, and process using existing computational models (in packages like FSL, MRtrix, and Spinal Cord Toolbox).
  • Integrate the data from the brain and spinal cord and contribute to the development of a multimodal longitudinal imaging biomarker.
  • Author high impact publications and contribute to future grant applications.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the study by working as a team in collaboration with the other study sites.
