Basic Function

Kern Community College District accepts applications for part-time, hourly faculty pools on a continuous basis. This allows the division to contact qualified applicants immediately if a need arises. Applications remain active for up to two years and are reviewed when specific needs are identified.

The district is seeking part-time adjunct instructors to teach a range of English and Reading courses, including at other campus sites, during day, evening, or weekend hours, and possibly for incarcerated students.

Representative duties include curriculum development, student recruitment, participation in transfer programs, and using multimedia technology.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's in English, literature, comparative literature, or composition, OR Bachelor's in one of these fields plus a Master's in linguistics, TESL, speech, education with a reading specialization, creative writing, or journalism.

Candidates may also qualify via equivalent experience, subject to evaluation.

A demonstrated sensitivity to diverse student backgrounds is required.

Knowledge & Abilities

Candidates should demonstrate broad knowledge of their discipline and the ability to develop curricula, work effectively with diverse students and colleagues, assess student outcomes, and utilize technology.
