Job Description
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1. Analyzes raw data from Holter
a. Performs good quality Holter monitor placements, with thorough patient instruction.
b. Utilizes knowledge of normal and abnormal cardiac function and subsequent rhythms to interpret data and select appropriate examples to put into report.
c. Analyzes patient diary to identify incidents that corresponds to detected abnormalities in Holter tracing.
d. Writes report and sends to MD for official read.
e. Notifies physician immediately of critical scans and follows up with physician instructions.
2. Performs EKG’s in a variety of settings, employing accurate lead placement and assuring good quality tracings.
a. Performs specialty EKG’s, such as pediatric, pacemaker magnet check and right-sided leads.
b. Insures that EKG’s are transmitted from cart wirelessly; during downtime, transfers data via manual transmission or memory card.
c. Performs all necessary paperwork including EKG editing, distribution of reports, billing reconciliation and completion.
d. Performs all MUSE activities that allows EKG to be processed, read by MD, and processed for billing.
3. Cardiac Testing
a. Assists the RN with Cardiac Stress Testing.
b. Is knowledgeable about operation of Stress equipment; can change protocols mid-test, perform manual protocols, initiate emergency stop, troubleshoot minor problems, print final reports, and add on EKG's from full disclosure.
c. Performs blood pressures during test and during recovery phase, and documents appropriately.
d. Monitors EKG continuously, documents arrhythmia and reports significant changes to physician. Monitors transcutaneous oxymetry when requested.
e. Keeps clear lines of communication by wearing and responding to assignment pager, and documenting physician paging and physician call back info.
f. Initiates Code 9 in emergency; assists responders as needed.
g. Knows protocols and tech responsibilities for each of the following Cardiac Stress Tests; Regular Exercise Stress Test, Stress Echo, Dobutamine Stress Echo, Exercise Stress Test with Nuclear Medicine (Spect), Persantine Stress Test with Nuclear Medicine, Adenosine Stress Test with Nuclear Medicine.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education - Preferred
High school education, completion of EKG certificate program, BLS-CPR completion, ACLS, intermediate computer skills, medical terminology
Minimum Work Experience
Prefer 2-3 years minimum Holter reading experience or equivelent.
Required Classes/Skills -
BLS - Basic Life Support
ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
Required additional Knowledge and Abilities
Advanced EKG interpretation skills.
Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, EMT or equivalent work experience with vital signs preferred.
Basic computer skills preferred.
