POSITION SUMMARY : We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Asst Tech Spvr-Anesthesia. In this role, the successful candidate Support Clinical Staff in ORs.
Assist with supervision, education and training of anesthesia technicians; maintains and sets up equipment; applies principles of infection control and ensures sterility of equipment and supplies for anesthesia care;
makes minor adjustments and repairs to equipment; assists with transport, monitoring and positioning of patients and placement of devices.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
Preparation of Equipment-OR - Clears all debris and equipment from the surface and drawers of all used anesthesia machines.
Checks to ensure that all machines contain a complete breathing circuit : One 3-liter bag, two corrugated hoses, one y piece and one elbow adapter.
Assembles the system completely and tests it for leaks and proper functioning of the pop-off valve. Replaces soda lime granules which are discolored.
Removes plastic domes on inhalation and exhalation ports and cleans both to remove any accumulations of excess moisture (particularly on exhalation port).
Makes certain that a mica or plastic disc, whichever is appropriate for that particular machine, is in each port.
Preparation of Equipment-Cystoscopy - Checks to ensure each machine has two masks of each size, ranging from infant to large adult, along with several oral and nasal airways (all available sizes of each).
Cleans, restocks, and tests machines according to established departmental procedure. Maintains 4 spare cylinders of oxygen and 2 of nitrous oxide readily available.
Provides 10 sets of spinal catheter technique. Checks to ensure that proper standard equipment is in the machines, such as blood pressure cuff, 4 x 8 gauze, electrodes, anesthesia charts, laryngoscope blade and handle, etc.
Provides disposable breathing circuits when available. At other times, provides 3 or 4 complete breathing circuits, which eliminates having to make periodic trips if more than one case is schedule.
Preparation of Equipment-Radiology - Checks and sets up anesthesiology machines in radiology. Cleans, restocks, and tests machine and E tanks according to departmental procedures.
Replaces cylinders with PSI and 500 when necessary. Checks to ensure that standard equipment is in the machine.
Preventative Maintenance - Ensures all equipment has been checked by clinical engineering and companies. Provides technical assistance to staff.
Conducts and participated in in-services and classes. Assists with guidelines for programs in regards to equipment. Supervises all areas where anesthesia is practiced.
Provides documentation on all preventative maintenance of equipment.
Preparation of Equipment-Obstetrics - Cleans, restocks and tests all machines daily. Provides cleans ventilators on a daily basis.
Checks to ensure each machine has three endotracheal tubes of sizes 30, 32, 34, and 36 French on a daily basis. Provides EKG electrodes for delivery rooms and test monitors on a daily basis.
Maintains an adequate number of adult masks, ranging from premature and newborn to a complete assortment of adult masks.
Supplies appropriate oral and nasal airways along with complete breathing circuits. Checks the supply of epidural sets and epidural cannulas to ensure the level is appropriate.
Changes empty 02 and N20 cylinders and supplies spare tanks (on tank rack) on a timely basis.
Maintenance of OR gas cylinder - Maintains a ready supply of anesthetic and orthopedic supply gases. Checks the status of nitrous oxide, nitrogen and carbon dioxide cylinder banks to determine available supply pressure.
Replaces empty cylinders as necessary. Notifies Receiving when empty cylinders should be picked up and full cylinders delivered.
Operating Room Area - Checks 7th floor as instructed, to see if anesthesia equipment and supplies are out Central service.
Puts all supplies and equipment in proper places. Takes a weekly inventory of all supplies including N20 on the 6th Floor.
Informs supervisor of items needed. Sets up / or explains clearly the use of respirators anesthesia machines, blood warmers, oxygen analyzer humidifiers, etc.
Cleans and tests laryngoscope blades and handles. Maintains an adequate number of pediatric blades and handles. Ensures there are three to five available for immediate use.
Adjustment / Minor Repair - Makes minor repairs and adjustments on anesthesia equipment as necessary. Places items on repair shelf if repair is completed.
Tests all ambu bag for proper function before putting them away or delivering them to an operating room.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS : To qualify you must have a Minimum Qualifications : High School graduate or the equivalent. Good communications skills.
ASATTOne year as a Lead Anesthesia Tech.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS : Preferred Qualifications : BA or BS.
