Epic experience required

Management of external ventricular drains (EVD)

Intracranial pressure monitoring

Ventilator management

Management of vasoactive drips

Tracheostomy care

Central line maintenance

Post-monitoring for TNK and IR

Description :

The facility has 874 licensed beds.

It is a Level 1 Trauma Designation center.

The unit operates with 29 beds.

It has an average patient census of 29.

Patient types include neuro ICU cases such as ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes.

Other diagnoses include subarachnoid hemorrhage, traumatic brain injuries, seizures / status epilepticus, and spinal cord injuries.

Patients may also have EVD drains and require ICP monitoring.

Post-operative craniotomies are admitted straight from the operating room.

Some off-service trauma or medical ICU patients may also be present.

The nurse-patient ratio is typically 1 : 2, with the possibility of 3 patients if downgrade orders are in place.

Certified Nursing Assistants are not consistently staffed on this unit.

Support within the department includes a supervisor, stroke response nurse, clinical educator, and charge nurse.

There is 24 / 7 availability of respiratory therapy and intensivists.

Nurse drawing and pharmacy services are available after hours.

Physical, occupational, and speech therapy services operate seven days a week.

Floating may occur to other adult critical care units as needed.

Scheduling requires weekend rotation every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

Travelers will work 75% of major holidays.

Requests for time off require manager approval.

The unit culture emphasizes teamwork and retention-focused practices.

Scrub color is navy blue.
