We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Energy Engineer with a strong background in C&I RCx and energy management DSM program engineering to join our dynamic team. Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the implementation of retro-commissioning (RCx) and energy management projects for commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Review Qualified Service Provider (QSP) submissions, including reports, savings calculations, and project documentation, to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with program requirements.
  • Provide technical review comments and communicate findings to QSPs, utility clients, and internal stakeholders in a clear and constructive manner.
  • Support the development of program materials such as calculation tools, guidebooks, and technical reference resources.
  • Work with QSPs, utility clients, and end-use customers to qualify RCx projects and assess project feasibility.
  • Prepare concise summaries of project results, including savings, cost-effectiveness, and lessons learned, for utility clients and program administrators.
  • Conduct selective site visits to verify project scope, assess building systems (e.g., HVAC, controls, compressed air, refrigeration), and support measurement and verification activities.
  • May lead and mentor 1–2 junior engineers, ensuring project reviews meet established quality standards, technical accuracy, and timeline requirements.
  • Provide training and technical guidance to junior engineers in RCx methodologies, HVAC systems, and program processes.
  • Identify barriers to project implementation and propose practical, innovative solutions to enhance program success.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in energy efficiency, retro-commissioning (RCx), or building systems engineering.
  • Strong technical knowledge of HVAC systems, controls, refrigeration, thermal/fluid systems, and other commercial/industrial building systems.
  • Demonstrated experience reviewing technical reports, calculations, and performing QA/QC of engineering deliverables.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into clear and actionable guidance for contractors, utility clients, and end customers.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize competing deadlines, and lead/mentor junior engineering staff.
  • Strong writing, presentation, interpersonal, and analytical skills; able to distill complex ideas into concise reports, conversations, and emails.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic environments with variable levels of ambiguity.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and related analysis tools.
  • Willingness to travel locally up to 25% of the time.
  • Interest in sustainability and passionate about making a meaningful impact on the environment.

Preferred skills, education and experience

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license and/or Certified Energy Manager (CEM) credential.
  • Master’s degree in Mechanical, Energy, or a related engineering field.
  • Hands-on knowledge of commissioning and retro-commissioning procedures, system schematics, and functional performance testing.
  • Prior success managing multiple projects or programs, including budgets, deliverables, and client relationships.
  • Experience designing and specifying HVAC, electrical, and building automation/control systems.
  • Proficiency with building energy modeling and simulation tools (e.g., DOE-2, eQUEST, EnergyPlus, TRACE, ECAM).
  • Familiarity with energy savings opportunities across building systems, including HVAC, lighting, compressed air, refrigeration, and process heating/cooling.
