Orientation Dates : 12 / 1, 12 / 16 (Please Note : The start date commences when all compliance and clearance requirements have been met by the selected candidate.)
Orientation is 6 weeks, lasts for 2 weeks, then 2 weeks of nursing training, followed by 2 weeks with a preceptor.Orientation is held every 2 weeks, on the 1st business day and 16th business day of the month from 8 : 00 am-5 : 00 pm.6-month contract minimumThey are divided up by care needs and the nurse will be assigned to a unit based on their skill set but could still float to othersShifts are alternating to meet staffing needs.Able to start any day during the week, given 5 days before start date for processing all pre-employment requirements.Length : 26 weeks

5 x 8'sFloating Requirements : Agency nurses are generally pulled first if there’s a need to pull to another unit. Initially, nurses are oriented to multiple assignments before settling in where there’s the biggest need.
Patient Ratios : They try to keep it low, 9-10 patients. Higher functioning patients might be a little higher and then lower functioning will be less than that. In the infirmary they have 15 patients total with 3-4 RNs and a charge nurse. Agency will be the first to float. Overnight does change a little bit. Orientation is 2 weeks of education and 2 weeks of on the job training to prepare them.
Weekends : every other weekend
RTO : None preferred
Certs : AHA BLS
Licenses : Active Texas LPN / LVN Licensure
Experience Required :
Minimum of 2 years of experience as the licensed professional they are applying for. For example, an LVN who has just completed RN school must have 2+ years of experience as an RN when applying for that sort of position.1 year experience in a facility setting for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities, and units with medically fragile individuals or areas with a higher understanding, more skilled nursingExperience with a larger med passNurses with experience in Nursing Homes do better here.Home Health, Clinic, and Hospice experience does not prepare a nurse for medication administration like that.Agency nurses float first. Please explain expectations.Initially nurses are oriented to multiple assignments before settling in where there’s the biggest need.If that pull comes months later, they wouldn’t get more orientation at that time. Staff are expected to help identify individuals.Need to have clear written and verbal communication skills, they have to communicate with peers, DSPs, PCPs, and also the individuals who live here.Must possess valid LVN license.Must comply with HHSC immunization requirements.Must submit to HHSC required drug test.Must submit to HHSC required fingerprinting.Must complete facility and HHSC required training.Required- 2 references from 2 different places of work in submittal packetsCOVID Vaccine Requirement : Vaccine required

Provide care for patients – manage medication administration and treatments; provide medication education and complete documentation.Perform computer data entry – Receive full training.Comply with facility Standard Operating Procedures to meet standards for accrediting agencies; specifically, ICF-IDD Regulations, DSSLC Policy and Directives and HHSC Standards, Rules and Directives.DESCRIPTION : The Licensed Vocational Nurse at Denton State Supported Living Center performs advanced vocational nursing work. Provides for the care, treatment, and general welfare of individuals residing at the State Supported Living Center who have intellectual disabilities, complex medical, mental health and / or behavioral health issues.
