Job Description
American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med / Surg Neuro unit night shift position in Illinois, requiring BLS, NIHSS, and at least two years of recent experience.
Responsibilities
Work in the Medical Surgical Neuro unit of an acute care hospitalLevel II Trauma center with 372 staffed bedsNight shifts available as either 4x12 or 3x12 (18 : 00–06 : 30)Average daily census is 32 patientsPatient population includes neurological, cardiac, GI, respiratory, and post-surgical casesResponsibilities include cardiac monitoring, remote telemetry, rapid response, colostomy and feeding tube care, IV therapy, and management of surgical drainsUses Cerner for charting; prior experience requiredWill float within scope as needed, including to affiliate hospitalsExpected to work every other weekendNo on-call requirementPrimary responsibilities include comprehensive care for neuro, cardiac, GI, and respiratory patients, including post-surgical careRoyal blue scrubs are requiredAll travelers are required to float within the hospital or to affiliate sites as neededTeaching hospital experience and Level II trauma experience are preferred but not requiredNon-locals and local candidates accepted, with no radius restrictionMaximum of 5 days RTO auto-approved; additional time off requires approvalMust be able to work 2 out of 3 major holidays during the assignmentParking permit required and provided at no costFirst-time travelers are not accepted for this positionRequirements
Active IL RN license required at time of applicationMinimum two years of recent Med / Surg Neuro RN experienceBLS and NIHSS certifications required (AHA or Red Cross only; RQI not accepted)Experience with telemetry monitoring, rapid response teams, heparin, insulin, PCA, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, continuous bladder irrigation, wound vac, and respiratory devices such as CPAP / BiPAP and tracheostomy managementCerner EMR experience requiredProfessional knowledge of isolation precautions and wound careMust have experience caring for patients with CVA, traumatic brain injury, pre / post neuro surgery, and spinal cord injuriesMust provide references from supervisors within the past two yearsFormer permanent or PRN employees must be away for 12 months before applying as a travelerBenefits
