Investigations Sergeant

The lateral police sergeant position is a commissioned peace officer assigned to the Investigations and Mitigation Division of the University of Texas Police Department.

The sergeant will be responsible for supervising and leading detectives conducting investigations of criminal activity on and around the University of Texas at Austin campus.

Responsibilities include :

• Supervising investigations of property crimes.
• Supervising investigations of crimes against persons.
• Managing and ensuring the proper collection, preservation, and analysis of evidence.
• Reviewing and approving detailed reports and ensuring accurate and complete case files are produced and maintained.
• Monitoring the interview of suspects and witnesses.
• Collaborating with outside agencies and external stakeholders.
• Testifying in court proceedings related to investigations in which the sergeant participated.
• Monitoring intelligence information and research situations to maintain situational awareness and assess risk.
• May perform traditional law enforcement duties during special events. May include periods of on-call status.

This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Salary range : $90,440+ depending on qualifications.

Working conditions include :

Work shift : Standard UT schedule, Monday - Friday 8 : 00 AM - 5 : 00 PM. May be required to work day or night hours, weekends and holidays with varying days off. Subject to on-call on a rotating basis.

Retirement plan eligibility : The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
