Job Description
The Project Manager will assist their assigned Managing Consultant with execution of assigned tasks, production of on time and high-quality work product, and management or coordination with other team members as assigned or requested. The Project Manager is responsible for supporting the success of their entire assigned practice area / practice division as the highest priority, regardless of any assigned subpractice area focus, or specific client engagement or relationship. In any coordination or management activities, the Project Manager will perform assigned tasks in a manner that models the Company’s core values and inspires and encourages goal achievement through empowerment, learning, and creativity among the team.
VERTEX is seeking a Project Engineer, Scientist, or Project Manager to execute environmental assessment and remediation projects for top-tier clients in New England. Candidate will work on a hybrid schedule based in either our Boston or Braintree Office and be responsible for the successful completion of projects including, but not limited to, the following :
Core Responsibilities
Work Product Creation, Project Management, Coordination with Team Members
- Conduct and manage environmental site assessments including subsurface investigations of soil, groundwater, soil gas, and indoor air.
- Plan and execute environmental remediation projects, including soil excavation and treatment, groundwater remediation, and vapor intrusion pathway mitigation.
- Provide oversight to field staff and subcontractors conducting site investigation and remediation projects.
- Ensure that project deliverables, milestones, and budgets are met.
- Work closely with senior managers in the coordination of work activities to meet milestones, budgetary limits, deadlines, or other performance indicators.
- Prepare, review, and submit final reports in accordance with regulations, applicable guidance and policies, and internal quality control standards.
- Responsible for supporting assigned Managing Consultant in meeting or exceeding the defined annual budget for the entire practice area (including proactive management of assigned resources to meet or exceed defined utilization targets, oversight of execution of profitable engagement work streams, and communication with clients as assigned or requested)
- Effectively coordinate with other team members as requested or assigned, able to provide guidance and monitor progress on assigned tasks or projects, and ensure work product produced by self or other assigned team members is consistently high quality
- Support assigned Managing Consultant in monitoring of all relevant data such as individual utilization performance vs target, client deadlines, accurate and timely timesheet data, etc.
- Meet or exceed defined individual average utilization goals as set forth by company leadership
- Coordinate and support other team members as assigned in a “lead by example” manner, with emphasis on positivity and a culture that is empowered to execute
- Mentor project team members in execution of defined objectives and key results (OKRs).
- Travel, as necessary to support client, employee, and leadership needs.
- Support individual and any assigned team members quality control of service delivery, maintaining an excellent reputation of quality
- Provide guidance to project team members in a manner that assists with rapid identification and escalation to Managing Consultant of any client, team member or operational challenges

Bachelor’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related environmental field.5+ years of professional experience and technical proficiency in environmental consulting services, including subsurface investigation and remediation.Experience with assessment, remediation, and compliance with the Massachusetts Contingency Plan (MCP), Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) as well as other relevant regulatory programs for the region.Successful track record in managing multi-faceted environmental projects with multiple services and accelerated schedules.Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite - Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook required; working knowledge of Office 365 applications preferred.Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Candidates with the Following Qualifications will be Prioritized
Licensed Geologist (PG), Professional Engineer (PE) or Licensed Site Professional (LSP) in Massachusetts, or successfully on track for professional licensure.Master’s Degree in Geology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or related environmental field.Experience conducting Property Condition Assessments (PCAs).Experience assessing and overseeing abatement of hazardous building materialsKnowledge & Skills

The salary range for this position is between $70,000 - $100,000.
