Afar is looking for a senior editor to join its editorial team.

The senior editor will bring new writers to the pages of Afar, develop distinctive story ideas, edit everything from middle-of-book packages to ambitious long-form features, and translate print content to other platforms. The ideal candidate should possess 6+ years of print experience and be excited to work on stories from inception through to proofs. They will work in a fast-paced and collaborative environment, coordinating with other editors and reporting to the executive editor.

Responsibilities

• Assigning articles
• Story and line editing
• Story packaging
• Headline, dek, caption, and sidebar writing
• Managing story budgets
• Overseeing at least four packages or roundups a year, in print and online
• Cultivating relationships with writers from a diverse range of backgrounds and identities
• Developing content calendars in collaboration with executive editor and editorial director
• Conceptualizing how stories might live across all editorial platforms
• Working with the art team on story framing and layouts
• Acting as brand representative at industry events and meetings
