Regional Supervisor (Control Center) - Bus Operations
Supervise the activities of road operations statewide to identify and address issues to ensure service quality within budget and on-time performance parameters. Roles and responsibilities include : working in the control center, observing and supervising bus operations activities, making quick and effective decisions, preparing daily comprehensive reports, communicating with the operator through CAD and a bus radio, troubleshooting mechanical and electronic equipment problems, using information available from CAD system to evaluate service, coordinating with other departments and outside agencies, monitoring radio sign-on, radio / PA checks, understanding all ADA regulations, maintaining, reading, and referencing the Standard Operations Procedures Manual, attending meetings and trainings, preparing documents and reports as requested, and quarterly shift rotation within control center.
Education, experience, and qualifications required include a high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma plus three (3) years of full-time work experience in progressively responsible positions, or three (3) years of full-time experience as a NJ TRANSIT Bus Operator, or an associate's degree and one (1) year of full-time work experience, or honorable discharge from any branch of the US Military. Preferred qualifications include a bachelor's degree with at least one (1) year of full-time work experience. Knowledge and skills required include a working knowledge of federal, state law, regulations, and NJT policies, excellent organizational and time management skills, working knowledge of common transit practices, equipment, terminology, safety precautions and safety rules, working knowledge of MS Office Suite and transportation specific software and applications, ability to plan, execute, supervise, and inspect the work of others, excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to develop and maintain clear, concise and accurate records / activity logs, ability to create and maintain effective and professional working relationships within all levels of the organization, ability to deal with both employees and customers courteously, tactfully, and professionally, ability to identify potentially hazardous conditions and take corrective action to resolve / or remediate, demonstrated critical thinking, ability to make quick but well-reasoned operational decisions, show dependability, initiative and resourcefulness, and physical condition must be commensurate with the demands of the position.
Certificates, licenses, and registrations required include a valid New Jersey State driver's license, a CDL B permit within six months of hire, and NJT's supervisory training The Art of Managing People I and II and a CDL B with a Passenger Endorsement within twelve months of employment.
Working environment includes general outdoor and office settings, with some light lifting, prolonged periods of sitting in vehicle, standing, walking, bending, and stooping. This position is safety sensitive and requires passing a pre-employment drug test with a negative result and compliance with DOT / FTA Drug and Alcohol regulations.
