Job Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Birthing Center / Mother Baby position requiring obstetrics and labor & delivery experience, night shifts, and a WV or compact RN license.

Responsibilities

  • Position is in an acute care hospital within the Birthing Center / Mother Baby unit
  • Unit includes 6 L&D suites, 11 postpartum private rooms, and a 4-bed OB Emergency Department
  • Patient population consists of laboring mothers, postpartum mothers, and newborns, including high-risk OB cases
  • Care includes L&D, postpartum, and OB emergency care with support from in-house OB hospitalist and neonatology teams 24 / 7
  • Ratios follow AWHONN guidelines : L&D 1-2 patients, Mother Baby 4 couplets
  • Required to work 12-hour night shifts, every other weekend, and participate in holiday rotations
  • Float required for cross-coverage between related units
  • C-section experience required; must be able to circulate and recover
  • Uses Epic EMR and Centricity FHM for fetal monitoring
  • Scrub uniforms provided for L&D; navy scrubs required for the Mother Baby unit
  • Telemetry is available and monitored in a telemetry room
  • Position involves mother baby and labor & delivery nursing including direct patient care and cross-coverage between units
  • Family-centered environment with advanced perinatal care certifications and a focus on safe sleep for infants
  • Lactation consultants and sophisticated infant security system (Cuddles) are available
  • Team includes 24 / 7 charge nurses, OB techs, respiratory therapists, and pharmacy support
  • No IV team; nurses perform their own IVs
  • Orientation includes a 12-hour onboarding shift and an additional 12-hour shift with a preceptor
  • Participation in holiday coverage is required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • No on-call requirement for travelers, but open shifts may be picked up

    • Requirements

  • Active WV RN or compact state RN license
  • Current certifications : BLS (AHA), ACLS (AHA), and NRP
  • A minimum of 2 years of labor & delivery experience is preferred; 1 year of mother baby experience is acceptable
  • C-section circulating and recovery experience required
  • Experience with Epic EMR and Centricity FHM is preferred
  • Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Previous permanent employees must have at least a 2-year break from prior employment at any WVU Medicine facility
  • Returning travelers must have a 2-year break after 1 cumulative year worked within the WVU system
  • Must provide an unexpired driver's license for consideration
