Must-Have : Proficiency in complex cases; experience in cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgery

Description :

The Surgical Technician will perform duties with a primary focus on Cardiothoracic Surgery.

Responsibilities include assessing equipment, instrument, and supply needs for surgical procedures and ensuring availability.

Basic surgical support will be provided, including room setup, sterile field management, and specimen management.

Assist the surgical team with gowning and gloving.

Anticipate the needs of the surgeon by passing instruments and supplies during procedures.

Maintain a clean and organized sterile field.

Perform surgical counts accurately.

Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization.

Participate in room cleaning and turnover.

Candidates must be very proficient in the most complex cases, including cardiovascular and cardiothoracic cases, heart transplants, valves, and CABG.

Experience or teaching in a Level 1 or 2 environment is preferred.

Candidates with demonstrated experience in complex cases at surgery centers will also be considered.

No first-time travelers will be accepted unless they have two or more years of experience.

Call coverage is required for 1-2 nights per week and one weekend per month.

The position requires working with cardiovascular and thoracic procedures, including valve replacements and transplants.

A manager will be available every day, and a charge nurse or house supervisor will be present daily during daytime hours.

Surgical technicians are required to have completed an accredited program, though certification is not required.

Basic scrub dress code will be provided, and candidates should dress appropriately when entering and exiting the facility.

This role involves cleaning and preparing the surgical environment and ensuring compliance with safety and health protocols.

All policies will need to be signed off, and orientation with a preceptor will occur for at least two shifts, with potential for three based on the area of work.
