The JCC of Central New Jersey
is a non-profit agency whose mission is to educate, enrich and empower our
community from generation to generation. The JCC offers educational,
recreational, fitness & wellness, cultural and communal programs and
activities to people of all abilities and all stages of life.
Summary of Position :
The Fitness Director is
responsible for overseeing the daily operations, staffing, budgeting and
programming of the Fitness Center, ensuring a high-quality, member-focused
experience for all users. This role supports, develops, and evaluates fitness
staff while creating a welcoming, inclusive, and results-driven environment.
The Fitness Director plays a key role in member engagement by designing
innovative programming, responding to member feedback, and staying current with
industry trends. This is a 40 hour per week, Overtime Exempt position reporting
to the Senior Director of Membership.
Key Responsibilities :
Staff Supervision, Operations &
Fiscal Management
leadership and management oversight of the Fitness department
fitness staff on an ongoing basis
policies and procedures for the fitness center, ensuring consistency, safety,
and efficiency
fitness facility at all times
facility needs
improve operational effectiveness
personal training in CRM
schedules
center budget on an ongoing basis
Customer Service & Member Engagement
exceptional customer service in person, by phone, and via email
as a key point of contact for participant concerns; work proactively with the
Senior Director of Membership and the Health and Wellness Director to resolve
issues and enhance member satisfaction
and oversee year-round programming to engage a wide range of populations and
increase the value of JCC membership
Program & Service Delivery
and coordinate personal training sessions for both new and existing clients
monitor and evaluate group fitness program offerings
and deliver individual and small-group training programs aligned with client
goals and abilities
the development and implementation of fitness initiatives to increase member
participation and retention
Professional Development & Industry
Awareness
informed of current fitness trends and best practices
new knowledge to enhance programs, training methods, and member experiences
Required Qualifications & Skills :
degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Recreation, or a related field
preferred
national certification from an accredited fitness organization (e.g., NASM,
ACSM, ACE, NSCA)
certification required
years of experience managing a fitness center
interpersonal and leadership skills; ability to motivate staff and build
community among members
with managing a budget and working with excel preferred
organizational and communication skills
